Question Ignition switch questions - Please help

I just bought an 89 column to swap into my 90 LX and I was wondering if the ignition switchs will swap over. If so, how do you remove the switch from the column?

Thanks.

Well the one on my buddy's 88 looks just like the one in my 91 so I would think it would work.

Well here's how to remove it. I was being a cheap *** bastard and since I didn't have the security torx bits and it was late at night I made one, yes I made one. I took an old allen tip, drilled it out, and grinded on the edges to make the torx head. It worked like a charm. I think you can buy the bit from FORD or a local parts store for $6 or $7.

My friends laugh when I told them I made it, they all think god what a waste of time you could have bought one for the time you had in it, well they are right but hey I did it.

So whats the new status on your beast, is it getting a 351 or some giggle gas? When are you coming down to PA, do you know yet?

The beast is done for now. I am going to quit worrying about the problems it has now and proceed onward with the modifications (like the tilt column). I am going to get a 150 shot or so sometime in the future, just not sure how soon. I've found a 351 block that will be purchased in a couple weeks. When I get that I'll be focusing all of my attention on getting the heads ported and shaved. It was fun doing it to my E7's so I'm ready to try it again on some 351 heads

Then it's just a matter of rounding up the rest of the components for the swap like the intake and headers.

I'll have to see if I can find a torx bit somewhere. I've done the same thing you did to make one before so I might just try that. Did you swap in a tilt column too Rick or did you just have to change the ignition?

It's uncertain if the trip to PA will even happen this year. She hasn't talked to her friends for awhile now so she doesn't think she'll be going to visit this year. At least it's not in the works yet anyway. If nothing else I may just take a vacation in October and head over. How late do the tracks run over there?

Just replaced the bad switch, thought I would love a tilt wheel, mush easier to climb in with the cage and 15.5" Stock steering wheel.

Tracks run till Thanksgiving, there is a big shootut Sat/Sun in October 13th/14th.

Bummer. I don't get my vacation days until Oct 18th

So, to change this ignition I have to change that whole aluminum piece on the column? It has two security screws in it.

Does the 89 column not have an ignition switch on it, I mean was it taken off? If not then you need to drill into the security screws and use an easy-out to get them out of your old column. I just replaced a broken tilt column a couple weeks ago and just kept the ignition switch that was already on the column that I bought.

The new column has an ignition on it, but no keys.
