302 in a Import!!!!!!
One of the guys at the Local Hangout was telling us how got in a race with an Import, ( I cant remember the make and model) and it waxed his A$$. At the next light the guy motioned for him to pull over and take a look.
The guy did and took a look at the import, he was expecting the thing to be twin turbod or something else, but when the guy popped the hood there was a Ford 302 sitting under the hood. Sevveral other people confirmed the story and met the guy also. They say its pretty nice, and definetley fast. What would you call it though. It isnt Rice, so I'm at a lack of words. The post about the LS-1 into a 99+GT made me remember about the import. |

It's called a hybrid. And if he didn't put all of the obvious body kits, exhaust, and clear corner lenses, it's called a sleeper. In this case, I would call it a supersleeper. Let me know if you find out any other information. I'd like to post it on supersleeper.com when I get it set up.

A 5.0 in a Mazda Miata is a pretty neat little trick. I think they haul a$$ too.

The miata swap is quite common, my longblock was originally built for a miata, they were hoping for viper killing numbers with it.

I use to have a friend that worked at a fabrication shop and did a lot of automotive work and we were real close to putting a chevy 350 in my old '91 Toyota Celica. It would have been a lot of work but I decided to go against it because I use to compete in stereo competitions and show it and he could have put it in and made it work but he did not have a clue when it comes to making it look good after all the cutting and welding.

Yup, www.monstermiata.com is the site i think. There are also people (my favorite) that put 302/351 in a Nissan 300Z, now that is fast.

Dinomite, you beat me to it. but i need to clarify. they put 302/351's into Datsun 240/260/280Z's, the 300's were too difficult (at least the newer ones). a 240Z with a ford V8 is one of my dream cars.

All I have to say is the new 2 door echoes probably wouldn't be cool (just kidding) to tub out and drop a smallblock in. Sure it wouldn't be cheap to convert to rearwheel drive or to beef up the frame, but there's no way the front wheels wouldn't be off the ground every 5 seconds. Next time you see one strapped down tight on a delivery truck with the wheels up in the wheel wells you can kind of get an idea of what it would look like. |

Aside from the Monster Miatas, the swap that impressed me was the Cadillac Northstar V-8 into a Fiero.

I've seen several 5.0 Volvos. Those things are bloody scary. They were at the track a few years ago running deep 13's at 110+ mph. Stock 5.0L too...
