Injector size ??
My son just ordered AFR-165s, installed a B303 cam, a Typhoon (Edlebrock clone) intake for our 88GT (converted to MAF) project car.
The stock 19lb injectors are shot and need to be replaced as a few of them are cracked. The long-term goal is for a NOVI2000 supercharger. My son has done some research and looks like he will need 42 or 50lb injectors and larger MAF for 11lbs of boost with supercharger. With the new heads, intake, and cam with no supercharger – the larger injectors will cause the car to run like crap right? We don’t want to buy 19 or 24 lb injectors today and have to spend another $300 later for the larger injectors. Any comments, suggestions? |

Yes with 40+ lbs injectors on a non s/c motor you're gonna run way rich and cause the motor to run like crap and possilbly do some damage to the rings.
Have you checked out your local auto wrecker and try to find some stock 19 lbs, should be able to find them and pick them up fairly cheap (well under 300). With the 19's you could still use the stock MAF, until you upgrade to the 40+ and then add the larger MAF calibrated for those.

I think I still have my original 19 lbs injectors sitting at my parent's house somewhere. One of them flow tested bad, but I replaced them all because of the outrageous price Ford wanted to charge me for just a single one. If you only have 3 or 4 bad ones, I could send you my 7 good ones. They have been sitting for about 4 or 5 years, but should be fine. You might want to just pick up the little rebuild kits for them, which are like 2 or 3 bucks a piece. Let me know if you are interested. You pay the shipping and I can send them your way.

Just buy them used, you can find a maf and injectors (in 24# size) for like 250. Then when its time to move up to 42's or 50's you just sell them and buy a used set of the bigger ones.

I agree, buy some used 24 lb/hr injectors then when you add the blower upgrade to a set of 42 lb/hr injectors and sell the 24#'s

Hethj7 - let me check with my son and see how many 19lb injectors he needs. We're also checking with our local performance shop that we've bought a lot of stuff from to see if he's got any 19lb injectors used.

If the "cracks" are just the pintel caps at the injector outlet end, you can buy new caps and o-rings as a kit for about $2-3 each. It would be hard to crack the upper plastic body I would think.

I am having problems getting email notifications from this site for replies in threads I have subscribed to and private messages, so if you are interested, email me at hethj7@hotmail.com. Put injectors or something in the title so it doesn't get tossed out as junk mail.

Well the junkyard or "partsyard" as they like to call it is the best place, i had to get some 19#ers to get me by and took them out of a markVII and they were $6 a peice, if you want to test them onsite just use a spare pigtail or 2 wires to a 9volt battery, hook it up to the injector fill the top with some carb cleaner or gas and then conect to bettery the fuel should drip out the bottom just a few suggestions.
