Intake porting questions, simple?
I have a rotary zip tool, can i go buy some abrasive rolls to port my intake? (stock) i want a cheap few more ponies for some of these pesky GTP's with smaller pullies around?
if so, what tips do i buy? i know i need one for aluminum material, im actually going to hone out the intake inlet for a 65mm match to a TB im fixing to install, and i want some gain out of the 200$ i spent on the Tb....thnx for any help. |
The stock intake isnt aluminum. Get something better than sandpaper. Some good grinding bits. Its not that easy to cut through.

Get a grinding stone to do the cutting and use a cartridge roll to finish it off. Whatever you do, make sure not to make the port into a "bell" shape at the end of the port, make sure to go back at least an inch or more. Also the straighter the better so if you're gonna re-shape the ports, take more off the short side because that is where the most airflow will be found. Good Luck.
P.S. I've been drinking tonight so if none of this makes sense then please disreguard :D |
red 82gt, im not really touching the ports, just the round inlet where my TB is going, sorry if i misposted, im just gonna port match, but im willing to go an inch back, and remove 5mm the best i can without butchering anything, skyman, what is it made out of then?(upper plennum) thnx for the help guys.

Well I could be wrong then guys. Its been about 4 years now since I've had a stock intake, but I remembed it being a heavy sob when I had it.
Just go ahead and port it back to match the TB. Its not hard to do, just get some WD40 to spray on the bit, as the aluminum (if thats what it is) will cake up easy on the bit and get in the way. Skyler |
Yea, lol it is a heavy sob, heh, hopefully i can just use it until i save up enough for heads, and intake, until then it's a daily driver, but cleans up the rice when neccesary:) thnx again, i have the tools, just waiting for my TB.

The stock intake is aluminium.

I'm pretty sure its aluminum.
While you are at it, why not rip those heads off and hog out the exhaust ports. You wont have to worry about any GTP's if you do that:) |
