Cool Intake selection

I've got a 306 with trw flat top pistons, f303 cam, dss main cap girdle and wingage tray, dart windsor heads w 1.6 roller rockers, c+l 73 mass air, 24# injectors, 70mm tb. I'm clueless about which intake to go with. GT-40, Holley Systemax, Cobra, TrickFlow, Shortrunner Or? The car has 4:10 gears and a five speed. Mostly track use but also driven on nice days. Does anyone have any sugestions?

I think that the systemax II intake would be your best bet. Dart windsors have a big intake runners that the systemax will compliment. This is just from my experence. I was using a systemax intake on a 347 and it would pull hard to 6500rpm with good torq down low. If price is a concern the trackheat would work good to. With the heads and cam you have you will be making your power up top so stay away from the smaller intakes. Good thing you have 4.10's you will need them!

you combination seems faily mild. what you want is an intake that will flow similar to what the heads and cam can flow. for the money, you cant go wrong with the trick flow street heat intake. it retails for about 400.00. which is similar in cost to a cobra intake, but will outperform it all day long. stay away from a short runner, box type intake , or from the victor 5.0 or trick flow R intakes, they will hurt your power because you cant turn the rpm needed to get the benefits from them. the holley is a nice piece as well, but with your combination, i would get the trick flow. ive got the trick flow track heat, but i can use that intake because my combination is more radical. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. also, the trick flow intake quality is excellent.

Thumbs up

I love my Systemax intake, yes the runners and ports are huge and do not really match up with any head with out a little port matching but I have had great results with the combo on my 302ci motor, it should go mid 11's with the 4:30's that will match my cam. So far I have went 12.16 @ 113.5 on street tires, I just got a new set of 26" x 11.5" ET STREETS and I am heading back to the track on Saturday hopefully for a 11 sec pass. I say buy the Holley and never buy another intake again.
