What gear did you have originally and what did you go to??
If you check your door panel the ax. codes are these...
m=2.73
z=3.08
e=3.27
Depending how much change you made..is how many teeth you need on the speedo gear.
I went from 2.73-4.10 and cannot correct the gear completely w/ out a different cable head or something. (thats what i'm told anyway)
Temp sounds like a bad t-stat maybe...should stay in about the bottom third of the range.

That sound that sounds like an airplane is your rearend. Better get used to it cuz thats the noise they make cuz they are spinning faster than they normally would.

I've never had gears done, but from what I hear, if they are making noise, the gears aren't ligned up right and you should head your *** back to the shop.

He's right your gears should NOT be whining, if they are they are set to tight and will wear out. I would get you car back to the shop as soon as you can so they will stand behind their work.

As far as getting your speedo right what NOS_Notch was eluding to was some times it is possible that you need to change the gear that is in the tailshaft of the tranny, I am running a red ford gear on the speedo cable with (I believe) a 6 tooth yellow gear in the tailshaft. I am swapping to 4:30 gears and there isn't correct combo out to make the speedo correct.

Did you say what year your Mustang is and what kind of speedo it has? I have an 89 1/2 Mustang since it has an 140mph speedo. Charts tell me I need to go to a 20 tooth if I have 3.55 gears, but in reality I need to go to a 23 tooth. If you have an 89 with a 140mph speedo, follow the 1990 chart and not the pre-1989 chart for gears.

GO BACK! Your gears definitley shouldnt make noise. They will build up too much heat and explode. They whine for a while, then it sounds like a helicopter is about to land on you car kinda like a huge WHOOMP WHOOMP sorta sound then BOOM! your whole rearend is scattered all over the freeway. Make sure its not your driveshaft making the noise though. My DS started to whine after my gear change but only because the U joints were toast. Defintitely have them checked out.

your driveshaft isnt spinning any faster at all, it just accelerates faster than before, if you are at 3000RPM with 2.73s and 3000PRM with 3.73s then your driveshaft is spinning the same speed with both of them, and to answer your question, yes it is a problem and you need to have it re-done ASAP, just ask around here theres lots of guys without excessive gear whine, yours were installed improperly
