I wouldn't get headers first. If its gonna be in exhaust, i would go with a cat-back kit. Headers will just make you lose torque, and if you have the stock 2.73 gears, and nothing else to help the top end, you will need that torque. Gears would be the best thing, but probably a little pricey.

I agree with Jeff gears are the Best mod!!!
I have 3.55 and love them, some people like the 4.10, which type of Tranny do you have? As for tires last time i was at a car show lots of people had the Nitto Drag Radials, they said they had great traction. Do a good tune up and remove the air silencer, when I got my 90LX it was still on. Good luck with your STANG. |

Thanx a lot guys. I'll probably go with the gears first then. I'll look at the nitto drag radials, sounds good. Thanx.

I am in the same situation. I own a great red '90 LX Mustang and I want to make it faster as well. I am not so interested in gears because it is a daily commuter and I have like a 25 min drive each way and 20 min of that is at 70+ mph...And I am not interested in killing my MPG anymore. I am looking at buying headers and exhaust. I am wondering which ones are the best for the 'stang, and how many horses I can expect in return.
Thanks, DoranW |

'90 LX's, in my opinion, are the absolute BEST stang ever . Go w/ the gears first, definately. Remove your air silencer, put in underdrive pulleys, and get a new shift kit (Pro 5.0 or Steeda Tri-ax). BFG Comp T/A's have treated me really well. Then, you'll be coughing up a little more cash (heads/intake/headers etc etc)

If I did underdrive pulleys, I wouldn't want to do the one with the alternator...I would prefer to do stuff that just affects the engine. I can live with weak A/C, but don't think I like the idea of everything being underpowered...Definately an option, but looking for something a little bit 'cleaner' (maybe not best word...but hopefully you know what I mean).

I like it alot too
Already removed the air silencer and put in a ram air system (sounds frikking badass...even more so.) Want headers/exhaust before pulleys. I have automatic, heard BIG pain in the *** to convert to manual. |

I have no problem with charging at all with my underdrive pulley on the alt. I just had to change my water-pump pulley back to stock.

Yeh 90 Lx's kick assssssss
Oh yeah I have one too maybe a little biased. And mine is a notch too Gears man, I have the 2.73's and can just feel how they suck all the torque out of the motor. I had a 91 LX hatch back in the day with 3.08's which was much better. Everyone swears by the 3.55's but I am really tempted by the 3.27's since I drive 70 miles a day. Heck Id even go with 3.08's now that my track lock is worn out and now I am MR peg leg. BTW 87-92 stock 5.0 HO's all had forged pistons. ------------------ Frank W 90 5.0 LX coupe Daily driver. Silencer removed, K&N filter. Flexalite fan, 3 core radiator. FMS flywheel and Clutch, FMS blue wires Energy Suspension end links 88 Notch 2.3L 5 speed Parts/beater car My two Notchbacks 74 Chevy Laguna Type S-3 305 Finally fixed getting a 454 to put in garage <A HREF="http://www.chevellepages.com/folingo" TARGET=_blank>www.chevellepages. |

I have a '94 Gt and the first thing I did was add American Thunder 2 Chamber Flowmaster. Then I went and changed my gears from 2.73s to 3.73s. Oddly enough, I didnt notice really and mpg loss and actually gained about 5 mph top end. I would remove air silencer and add a k&n air filter. You could add underdrive pulleys if you wish. I would go BF Goodrich Comp T/As. I think for the $$ they work the best on street.
