Default King pin stuck

I knew I had screwed up my posi unit cause it was popping on the launch.

I tried to take it apart tonight and it aint happening.

I removed the long bolt that goes through the kingpin and it was bent pretty bad.

Normally the king pin will just fall out after the retainer bolt is removed.

The king pin doesnt look bent so I think that maybe the spider gear has siezed onto the pin.

Anyone else ever seen this?

I was removing the rear end anyways to sand blast and paint it. I should be able to figure something out when I get the rear end out of the car.

I always run into the strangest damn problems.

I think you are using a different term then most. King Pin.....is a front end suspension part....not a part in the differential.

I think you're talking about the pinion shaft. This is the shaft that is held in with a lock bolt that goes through the pinion gears and between the axles.

Seen this happen a few times over the years. When doing the one-wheel-peel, you're forcing the differential to differentiate at a very high speed/high load. As fast as your wheel is turning, the differential is turning twice as fast. It ends up inertial welding the pinion mate gear to the cross shaft. Only luck I've ever had getting it apart has been to sacrifice the differential (e.g. red wrench! .....acetalyne torch). Think of it this way though.....you get that brand new Auburn Pro and the wife can't really argue about it.

I got tired of rebuilding my Traction-Lock every couple of years and replaced it with an Auburn Pro. It has worked well now for a year or so with no signs of impending failure. I got that one because it was one of the few available for my 8" rear end. Also, Dan uses one on his 600hp "Death Machine" and it had held up for him at least for a limited time on his 9". I'm happy to see that you like them too. The only thing that bothers me is that they're not rebuildable.

31 spline spool, axles, and c-clip eliminators are all Moser. It's all holding up great to 7000rpm launches with a best 60ft so far of 1.46 (still trying to dial it in). I use MT DR's on the street and with the soft compound/sidewall it makes it almost unnoticeable having the spool back there, until there's a tight turn into or out of a parking spot. Even then its still no big deal. I'll never go back.
