no you dont need a tranny rebuild. The throwout bearing is inside the clutch fork. It rides around the input shaft of the tranny and gives the fork something to push the pressure plate with.

They come included in all clutch kits, so either the guy didnt install a new one when he put your clutch in, or it was faulty.
