Default little help...

Just looking for a little help on beefing my new car up, well new to me, I'm a newbie Mustang owner. It's all pretty much stock 1995 Mustang GT Convertible. Looking where to start on it, I've talked to people but figured my best bet would to come to a place where Mustang owners come and get some info from people that actually work on them

Thanks in advance!

Damn...what an open ended question. That depends on what you want. I'd say the most popular first-time mods would be a Cat-back exhaust system and subframe connectors. And a lot of people put K&N filters on, but I really don't consider that a modification. When you're just starting out it's important to remember the acronym KISS (no, not the band). Keep It Simple Stupid. Nothing's worse than diving in head first and realizing you know nothing about what you're doing. Just build it up as you get to know more and more. Congrats on the car by the way and welcome to the Mustangworks.

After reading over that it is really open ended. I'm looking to add power to it mainly right now, not worried about looks until later down the road. And was just wondering where was a good place to start modifying, lke the exhaust or air filters. Thanks for the info 84_GT350. Let me know if you need/want anymore info on the car.

Most people modify the exhaust first. Its usually all bolt-on stuff and is pretty easy. You gain power, gas mileage, and best of all the sound. While its best to do headers on back, a cat back sytem is a good start. If you change tailpipes, invest in stainless steel. If you don't you will eventually wish that you did.
For mufflers I think that Borla and Magnflow flow the best. Flowmaster 2 chamber is the loudest and in my opinion sounds the best

Most people would agree a set of gears for the rear end would yeild more performance than most bolt-on upgrades.

I agree with 7000rpm. Headers back is definitely the way to go if you can afford it. That's what I did and I love it. BUT I'm not a big fan of the new series of Flowmasters. I've got a set of the older style 2 chambers with turndowns and it's loud as hell (which I particularly like) but I've got a friend with a set of the newer 2 chambers on a Monte Carlo SS (and Flow's usually sound better on Chevys) that sound like they're gurgling water. Borlas kick *** if you can afford them @ around $100 per muffler...I like MACs too. You might also look into intakes. There's over half a dozen for the 5.0 so you've got quite a bit to choose from. As far as gears...if you've got a 5spd, most people go with either 3.55s or 3.73s (anything higher and you won't have much of a 1st gear). With an auto most people pick 3.73s or 4.10s. Shift kits also go well with automatics.

Thanks alot for the info! Appreciate the time, now off to start working on the badboy, I'll get before and after shots for when I'm done, will take awhile, have to build up the cash so it will be piece by piece deal if possible. Then I'll put it all up here!
