Long tube installation?

I was thinking of getting a set of long tube headers to replace the stock ones i have, but I'm not to technically adapt yet. What kind of mods would i have to make to my existing h-pipe bolted up to stock headers for the long tubes to fit? And is it really worth the effort? I'm planning on putting on the mods listed below and when im done with them twisted wedge heads and a new cam...

do you have a 5spd? i hear its a pain in the arsze, but it's worth it, you will have to buy a matching h-pipe, yours could be modified im sure, but it would cost more than just buying another that matches, unless you cut and weld you flanges yourself, and then you better have an accurate measurement, good luck, and let us know, also i hear the steering shaft has to come off to get the header on.

dam... maybe ill save that one for later... like after i get aftermarket heads. and after the exhaust i just bought i think ill be doing all my own cutting and welding... i don't wanna end up with another piece of crap like i got from summit... first time i got it, it didn't have the 02 holes drilled in, when i got it back, it was 3 inches short on each side... now itrattles and the headers tap when im at WOT... im changing back to my h-pipe when my new t-5 gets here though...

So your getting a new t-5? i installed my t-5 myself on a gravel driveway, it was a pita, just one bolt that wouldnt come out, and if you got a way to jack it up, or someone else helping you its pretty simple.

I'm probably gonna be puttin in the t-5 in my yard... but i'm a youngin so i got my dad to help me out. The only problem is its gonna be done a 2 jack stands and a floor jack... clearance may become and issue... but hey, it should be fun and it gives me an excuse to get the crappy summit exhaust off and put back on the flowmaster h-pipe

oh yea, summitt exhaust didnt look too good to me, im a youngin too, well 23, but i had to wresle that t-5 in, but i got it, and im just a skinny guy 6'3 155, as long as you get the input stabbed in right your good to go, just have to work it in easily.....good luck

As stated, long-tubes will not bolt up to your stock H-pipe.

Also, I would just purchase a shortie off-road H-pipe for the long-tubes, rather than mess around with cutting and welding. Just my advice.

BTW - are you related to Unit 5302??? :D

Long tube are not that bad!

you don't have to pull the steering shaft! All I had to do was loosen the motor mounts and tilt the motor (sounds harder than it is) it took me maybe 5hrs (at a slow screw off pace) and that includes pulling the old exhaust.

When you do it do BBK LT's with 1 5/8 collector and order the BBK short H-pipe made for the headers they have the O2 bungs all ready installed.

I think you will like the sound and the power, good luck!

Thanks for all the advice guys, but i think with the two exhausts i have now, buying another one doesn't have room in the check book right now... may after i get the heads ill get some long tubes....
