Default Lope

OK so now I belive we have stopped the idle surge.. But...
We have replaced the egr egr sensor pvc valve map sensor both 02 sensors tps sensor and the ics sensor (geez). The idle surge seems to have finally gone but...
The problem now is I got the engine from a friend who isn't a friend anymore. I tore the upper end down to check everyting just to make sure but I didn't touch the lower end except for a new oil pump. I have NOOO idea what kinda cam he put in it but the question is how much lope is actually possible?when I drop the car into drive thje rpms go from about 100 up to 1000. It does not seem like the same tempo that the idle surge had it went from 900-1100 rpm. The timming of the 2 events seem to be completly different so I believe this is a lope caused by the cam but I am not sure. Any ideas? How can I control it? Is my only solution for this a higher stall speed converter?
Help me again!!
Oh yea now when in park I have ajust a littl lope not much at all.
