![]() I had a flat tire and I apparently left the lug key on the lugnut in my haste. What information will I need to order a new one for my car- VIN #, etc. Will I be able to order it through a Ford dealership, or is there a better alternative? Time is critical as this is my daily driver. Thanks.

![]() You will more than likely have to buy a new set of locking lugs. You can get the old ones off with a 15/16 deep impact socket and an air compressor.
Take care, -Chris

![]() Go to your local tire store. THey have a universal "cone" socket that will remove these. Then you will go out and get a whole new set.

![]() I had one strip out on me,and I had the cobra R's on there, and you couldn't get the socket on there far enough, plus the locking lug nuts are usually chromed and it's a lil harder to hammer the socket on there it wouldn't stay, ESPECIALLY if you have cobras. I tried EVERYTHING, and I mean eveything, took it to tire shops, I took it everywhere, I finally had to weld a socket+extension on there, and after a very long time I finally got it of. You can probaly go to autozone, pep boys, etc, and they will hve another kit, and one of them will probaly have your key in it.

![]() I have Cobra R's and went through the same thing. I took the car to the local Good Year and they got them off with a universal kit no problem at all.

![]() Locking lugs are evil, I bought my mustang with locks and no key. I ended up having to remove them, good riddance. I was not able to work on my brakes for a week till I had someone remove them with the universal cones.

![]() If it wouldn't have been stripped out, and I lost the key, I would've just bought another set/key. Yeah I think they are stupid to a point, because if a pro. really wants your wheels he will get wheel locks or not, all you have to do is hammer socketonthem and they come right off. But the it probaly does keep away the punk kids that steal wheels, they'd move on to something easier.

![]() I went to my dealer, he asked me why I wanted to lock wheels on an old '87......
said Ford didn't have them, grudgenly went to the back room, and gave me a tele. number of the mfr. said I had to have the 'key #' and they were about $20. I walked out the door, threw the number away, and took off the locks...... You're dealer should have the OEM mfr's tele. number. Thats after spending $65 bucks for a part I was told was 'dealer only' and have now seen them in Dallas Mustang for $6...<g> |

![]() Hey Chevyguy...my locking lugs story is EXACTLY THE SAME. Weird, considering we don't live far apart.

![]() Went thru lost key syndrome, too. Finally popped the center
cap out and used a medium sized pipe wrench. Went on at a bit of an angle, but the lug came right off. Was barely nicked, even. THEN, of course, I found the key. |
