Do bad valve guides equal lost power?
My car was burning oil in a couple cylinders. I puled the valve springs to replace the valve seals and found a couple valves that wiggle side to side in the guide. I can also hear my compressed air escaping past them.
Whats weird is that all the cylinders came up with the same 160 lb compression number. My car also dynoed 270 hp @ 5000 rpm on a Mustang chassis dyno. I think the rpm peak is a few hundred rpm low for a ported TFS/GT-40/E-cammed car. Perhaps these leaky valves have something to do with that? Any ideas?.......... |

The bad guides will not only cause a loss of power but you will also start to use more oil, oil contamination in the fuel kills octane ratings.

Yes they are Twisted Wedge heads. I imagine an oil contaminated octane rating cannot be good with nitrous........
I am in the middle of yanking the heads right now. |

I guess the valve guide issues with these heads are true. Do you have your rockers set up exactly the way they descibe on the tech section of their website?

I have the exact set-up recommended by Lidio Iacobelli of Alternative Auto Performance.
6.7" pushrods, and 1.72 studmount rockers. I bought the heads used from a friend and we both have sprayed a LOT of nitrous through them. I would guess they have 50,000 hard miles on them. Time for a freshening I guess. |
