![]() Ok, I may get a lesson here, but, oh well. What are quad shocks? I am having problems with rubbing. I have a 93 5.0 with 225/60/16 tires, on pony rims, and the car is at the stock height. I also have a flowmaster cat-back exhaust system. My back left tire seems to be rubbing on something, very badly. The inside of the sidewall is what's wearing out, so I'm assuming it's not just the alignment. The only thing I noticed that might be rubbing is the tailpipe, right where it curves for the last time, before exiting the rear. The tailpipe is moved over as far to the center of the car as possible though. There is a shock, (not the main rear shock) going from the top of the inner fenderwall to the side of the frame, and it's close to the wheel, but I'm not sure if that's what's rubbing. Here is a pic. Thanks, Keith

![]() definitely looks like your tail pipe is rubbing on it. i have 86-93 tail pipes on my 95, they had to do a little bending to get them right so they wouldnt rub.
just bring it to a muffler shop and have them bend it a little, or weld a washer where the hanger is at the end of the tailpipe so it cant slide all the way over toward the tire. |

![]() Now that you mentioned it, I think that would work. There's already one on there, but I'm sure it's old. I'm just hoping the muffler shop doesn't have to cut a section of tailpipe out, to get everything lined up correctly.

![]() the muffler shop is probably just going to try to use a pry bar, so try that first.
get a "LONG" pry-bar, and try to pull the pipe away from the tire. if you have the reg. flow tubes between the muffler and h pipe, you might be able to get away with loosening the flow tubes on both sides, then pulling the tailpipe away from the tire, then tighten back up the flow tubes. they just might be in there a little crooked. |

![]() I think it could be your quad shocks. Looking at your second pic it did not look like the tire was hitting the tailpipe. Jack up the rear of the car and take off the rim. From this view you should be clearly able to see the quad shcoks(Just small Versions of the yellow ones that are in you picture.) If it looks like it was rubbing here, just take the quads. They really do not affect the handling of your car at all. On mine the tires were hitting the quads and the tailpipes. Guess 275-40-17 and 3in. tailpipes do not mix.

![]() Put the car up on a lift or stands and look at the tail pipe. You will see on the pipe where it rubs if that's the problem. While its up losen the bolts to the tail pipe and the flow tube. Then pull it over toward the middle and have one of your buddies tighten it all down (WHILE you're holding it) This is how you set you tail pipes.
Also, make sure all of your hangers are on so thatit's not swaying while you're driving. Good Luck

![]() if the rubber shavings are from the rubbing....it cant be the quad shock, because where they are being flung, it would have to be something lower than that.
try loosening the flow pipe from the h pipe, then move the tailpipe away from the tire, then tighten the flow pipes back up. that should work |
