![]() In my aarticle "clutch problem" I stated that I needed to replace the clutch in my '95 Mustang GT with T-5. I have a couple of choices. King Cobra comes with pressure plate, throwout bearing, and disc for $200. RAM HD clutch costs $149 as does ZOOM. Then ZOOM has a multi-friction clutch for $209. RAM also has a powergrip kevlar clutch for $219. My questions are, what is multi-friction? What is the advantage of kevlar? Finally, which is the best deal of the four choices? Thanks.

![]() how soon b4 you plan on doing a clutch again?? or how much faster will your car be then?
Just get the motorsport. You don't need anything more than stock really. I replaced my last clutch about 2-3 years ago...used a stocker again(you can get them for $50) I run 12's and don't have problems. 2-3 years on 12's is about all they are good for. Also if you are in a lot of city traffic...the heavier pedal might annoy you w/ the others. ------------------ 4.10's,long tubes & 75 shot...Goes 12.50's Check it out at http://www.burnouts.webprovider.com 11's coming soon!!!! ![]() I have the older style Ford Motorsports clutch # A-302. It went in just like a stocker, the pedal effort is noticably higher but required nothing more than a new stock cable. The King cobra version is supposed to be easier on the effort with about the same holding power. Since the Auto Zone clutch kit is $125 and the low end Ram versions are about $150 I went with the Ford version. I should have waited to get it from Summit as I paid $180 from Fortes since they are 10 min from my house and I didnt get a throwout bearing with it. I did get the FMS new flywheel for $110 a real no brainer since my flywheel had already been cut and had heat crazing on the surface, just bolt the new one on! Since I was quoted $50-$60 for resurfacing the flywheel, and I plan to drive the wheels off this car, go with the good stuff.
All the really good clutches go for $250+ and require a adjustable clutch quadrant etc ------------------ Frank W 90 5.0 LX coupe Daily driver. Silencer removed, K&N filter. ![]() The King Cobra doesn't require a new cable or quadrant. I just put the King Cobra in my car a few weeks back and I love the lighter pedal effort. It might be a good idea to replace the cable and pick up a quadrant as the cable can stretch with use and the factory quadrant is junk.
Chevyguy, $50-$60 to resurface a flywheel is way to high. My local Napa shop resurfaced mine for $25 and it took them 2 hrs. to do it. ------------------ 88GT 5-speed Mods: Cervinis Ram air hood 3.73 gears, King Cobra clutch, Pro 5.0, March alum. ![]() So am I hearing everyone right? No new clutch cable is needed with the King Cobra? I have heard with some aftermarket clutches that a new adjustable one is required because the clutch pedal moves too far. Oh, and another thing, does the King Cobra help your ET? If so, how many 10th's?

![]() If you are looking for a performance clutch I would recommend the CenterForce dual friction. The pedal pressure is similiar to stock with greater holding pressure. Easy on the street yet tough enough for slicks at the track. It will cost a little more, but worth it in my opinion.
With all performance clutches a new cable and quadrant is recommended. The factory quadrant will not hold up with the heavier clutch. ------------------ fordgasm CLICK HERE to see my 87 GT |

![]() My car came with the king cobra in it when I bought it and I really did not like it the pedal was stiff as hell. There was not even anything wrong with the clutch and I swaped it out with a ford racing clutch. The king cobra sucked for everyday driving the damn thing would were you out but if its quicker ET's that your lookin for the king cobra is bad *** for the strip you can launch hard as hell (In my opinion the best clutch out right now is the centerforce dual friction) You can expect a good clutch to hold 40 to 60% better than stock enabling you to launch real hard and hammer through the gears barking the tires. I have seen a good clutch knock of two to three tenths in the quarter mile. Good Luck
