Question 125 Mph?

I have had my 89 Gt for a few months now and i love taking it on open freeways late night and seein wat she got. i got a pulley kit off road h-pipe , k&n and i removed the air silencer but itll only go 125 mph top speed. when i do get into races i usually get spanked by all them rice rockets at the top end. how can i improve my top end? thanks

what gears do you have?

i bet you have 2.73's and an automatic, right?

this is because when mine stock (and still an AOD) i tried to top it out and it wouldnt shift into OD at WOT so i pushed 3rd gear to the limit which was a little over 120

you can let it shift into OD if you let off just a little but thats no fun. so i think its Transgo that makes the shift kit that gets rid of the WOT 4-3 downshift. Or you could get a lentech valvebody and electronically control the OD shift.

believe it or not, a set of lower (higher in number) will actually help your top end, i'd say 3.55's would be a great high end running gear.

I've hit 140 with my car as it is and it feels very unsafe. So I wouldn't want to try to push it any farther.

Quarter Mile. Untill your car runs low 11's to high 10's stay away from 125mph.

Oh of course I have. Im saying he should only race a 1/4 mile. They are going wayyy over a 1/4 if they are going that fast. You should only be going that fast in the 1/4 if you are running low 11's to high 10;s

Racing a 14 or 15 second car in a top speed race is not too bright in my opinion. It probably takes you a mile or more to top out. That is pretty dangerous.

I personally think it's a lot safer if you gan get to 125 MPH in oh,........say, 11.3 seconds.

I agree with skyman, no need to race that fast. Not that it isn't fun going that fast, but you race from a standstill, top speed means nothing, its just somethign ricers always bring up. That and hp/l. morons.

There is nothing wrong in my opinion with going really fast, but you should atleast get some brake and suspension upgrades before you do it, and shut it down as soon as you top out. If you ever had to slow down or make evasive maneuvers at that speed, you would be screwed. If you jam on the brakes at that speed in a Fox, they will fade before you make one stop (I know this because I did it in my '87).

Exclamation 143mph

the only modification i had when i hit 143 was h-pipe and flowmasters. i had 3.08's. the car starts to float. brakes fade as if there wasnt any pads there. mine wasnt too bad. i like top end. i like to push it further and further. now with the mods below, its better, but wouldnt say it was "safe" yet. when i get my mods done, then i will be hitting 160, i hope!

I've hit 125 in my '84 and 135 in my '89 GT and both times i decided that i was dumb and slowed my butt down. The '84 didn't have too much after 125, but was still accelerating and the GT was still climbing, i had my snow tires on so i decided that dying would suck. They were both also on open roads in desolate areas so it wasn't as bad, but i'm not a big fan of going so fast on usually slightly bumpy roads (which turn into BIG bumps at speed.)

I had my car going around 175 mph on a stretch of freeway. I have stock brakes. It felt as if I had absolutely NO BRAKES at that speed. I just smelled burning pads almost instantly.

That was one of the most insanely stupid things I have done in my life.

PKRWUD: I think we got the same memo they sent out on how dying sucks....or maybe we read it in the same magazine

I've only had the Stang to about 145-150, it felt pretty good until ya hit a bump!
How about 170 on the Ninja?! Here is a pic and vid of 160.
