Mac shifter install questions

First off the new shifter is so awesome, can't believe how crappy the stock shifer really was.

The stock inner shifter boot was trashed from several trans installed, and it tore more cus the collar of the mac shifter is larger than the stock. I am going to get a new boot, I assume Ford may be the only source other than junkyard. Any aftermarket ones with more clearance for aftermarket shifters?

Also the console boot now is too large for the short shifter and bunches up. Any shorter ones available or any way to make it fit better? I can live with it as is but figured I would ask

Thanks for the help, hope to post some 14 second times soon

I have the PRO 5.0 with a fat knob and it's THE shortest of any combo. My boot never bunched up.

I know what you mean. For my 94, I just went to a leather shop and got a custom boot made out of this really thin material, it doesn't get in the way of fast shifting now, and looks great !

I also have the Pro 5.0 with a fat knob and the boot does bunch a little. But it does not bother me. I have never seen an aftermarket alternative though. The custom one that the above post mentioned sounds like a good idea however.

I also replaced the inner boot and only found it through Ford, which means you will pay too much for it. But, what ya going to do?

Thanks guys, I never saw either part in catalogs but wondered if I was nuts http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif. I had to shove the boot down to screw the knob back on, it does not interfere with shifting at all, just does not fit as good as it did before Looks like I'll be getting used to it as is and time to order the new inner boot from Ford too

Well the inner boot cost $14 from Ford and will be in wednesday, quite a bit of noise and probably fumes come up through that hole, so I'll be glad to close that up

Still lovin the tight shifter can't wait to post some times http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/eek.gif
