Machining on a stock throttle body - can it be done??

I am in dire need of a throttle body and was wondering if a stock TB can be machined out to about 65mm or even bigger. I am a machinist and have all the coolest machinery available to me to do it so that's not the problem.

I know I'd have to make a new throttle plate. Anyone know how to go about doing this or know where I can find an article with specs and such?

I set one up on a CNC mill, and took it out to almost 63mm (and then went through the wall).

Forget the mill... just use a rat-tail file. It's much faster, and the Al disappears in no time.

I kept the stock diameter around the plate, and just smoothed it out, and openned the rest up a bit (port-matching the backside to the intake).

It's not 65mm, but it didn't cost a dime, and it doesn't whistle either ;-)

Mine is bored out to almost 63mm. Some castings were a little thicker walled than others. I believe mine was originally from an '88.

58mm is stock right? So you are saying I can only take 2.5mmm per side? The walls seem a bit thicker than that. Or is there an inner wall in there that you can't see? Thanks.

Stock is 60mm. Why do you need a bigger TB? What are you running? In a relatively stock engine there is no difference at all (okay, 1 hp) between a 60mm and a 65mm.

Tomorrow I am adding a GT-40 intake, ported ET7E heads, F303 cam, Crane springs, 1.6 roller rockers, 76mm C&L MAF, 24lb injectors, 190lph fuel pump, cold air kit, A/C delete kit, removed smog pump, battery relocate kit, and a few minor goodies.

I'm stoked as hell right now becase my cam and springs just arrived and that was the final component I needed to put her back together besides a throttle body.

3.73's will be installed in a couple weeks.
