Making the right mods : Need major opinions!

Hi,
Ok, just so you know what I have, and what
I want, here goes...

I have a stock 1989 5.0L engine with either a mild aftermarket cam, or rockers setup. Along with 3.55 gears, and a Mac cat-back. I want to build it up for more power (enough the drivetrain can haldle without breaking down), little by little, and with my limited budget, here's what I plan on buying for this year:

- 73mm C&L MAF (for 19# injectors) ($80)
- FMS 65mm TB ($76 so far on eBay)
- Explorer Upper/Lower intake (not sure on $)

Question is, amd I going in the right order so far? I know I can get difference with the MAF, but the 65mm wouldn't be any good to my stock intake. Although at that price, it's a steal and it can be useful for a bigger intake.

What do I do? I can get the MAF cuz its from a private seller; the TB I'd have to wait for the bid to end.

Thanks!
Bye!

The intake is a waste of money with out heads, as is the throttle body. The MAF won't due much either. Take all the money there you planed to spend and get a set of used heads like GT-40's or so. My car with a stock intake and GT-40 heads, and a stock cam ran a 12.9. That should be plenty for you.

Hi,
Well, I am definately getting the
C&L since $87 (including shipping) is
a really good deal. I don't expect
to get a world of difference, but
if I can build up slowly, I'm sure I will
reach my goal eventually. BTW, Here's how
I plan on making my mods:

- C&L 73mm
- Explorer upper/lower intake
- 65mm TB (only with intake above)
- Heads
- Ignition
- Fuel system (pump/injectors)
- Suspension and anything else

Thanks!
Bye!

gautam: I am in same situation as you are, i want to make some mods and while it seems easier to do the smaller and least expensive mods first they won't make much difference till you put a good set of heads on it. Thats the first thing i am gonna do is heads and at same time intake then those other mods will be of use.

Grab that meter!! That's a steal compared to what I got mine from, and I got a discount on it from RCO at the time.

That Explorer intake isn't smog legal is it? Cuz the drive clean program may not like it too well. Go for a cobra then... Consider heads and cam along with it if you can afford to.

Hi,
Yes, the Explorer intake can be illegal for smog regions, but there's a way to modify it so it will be emission friendly. Plus, I figure the Explorers (and their intakes) running around in Ontario are at least equipped with the smog control features.

Well, the meter is gonna be mine soon. Now I gotta start searchin for the intakes (and then the TB and heads).

Thanks!
Bye!
