Default mass air....

has anybody ever attempted to cut the stock mass air meter in half and hollow it out and then weld an aluminum pipe in between it? as long as you are plannin on staying with 19 lbs. injectors it seems do-able. if you look at the cobra meter it is almost exactly as stated above. its almost like they just took ou the middle of it and welded in a pipe.

just wondering if anybody heard of sucha thing? my buddy and i were talking about this the other day....

thanks,
adam

My advice is to leave the MAF alone. It's extremely sensitive. More than likely, you will mess it up.

well, i just look at all the aftermarket meters out there and all they really are is an aluminum pipe with a tube in it of the proper size for the injectors. so it got me thinking of making my own, seeing that i work at a metal fabrication shop i though i may be able to make it work if someone has attempted it before with some success.

thanks,
adam

I would not mess with the MAF either. They are very sensitive. Besides If the meter measures the mass of air passing accross a KNOWN diameter and you change that diameter, you just created a problem for the computer. I know my 95 Compter seems really sensitive. My advice, your not going to see any real performance increase and you could screw it up. Buy a new one. I think the aftermarket units are also more accurate and reliable than stock units, in addition to flowing more air.

well the only air that it measures is inside the sample tube itself. so i fugured that without messing with the sample tube i would be ok. only making larger the actual inlet passage of air. because dont most aftermarket meters use the stock electronics??? i know C&L does.

thanks,
adam

C&L does. go for it man, I agree with you. if you mess it up just get one from the junk yard.
