Question mass air conversion??

Has anyone converted to mass air?

I am thinking about doing it myself and I saw the unit that Brothers performance has for sale and I am considering that one and maybe with 24 lb injectors.

What do you guys think.?

Stock injectors are 19 lbs right?

How do you get the unit calibrated for different fuel injectors in case i decide to change injectors in the spring and convert to mass air now?

GT40 upper, lower ported and polished, shorty headers,n 190lph fuel pump, future heads & Cam

I've converted and its a very straightforward swap

I bought the conversion harness that plugs into the meter and just followed the instructions from it. I then bought a used 75mm pro-m and a A9P computer seperately. The kits that are sold together are a big waste of money.

Stick with the stock 19lb injectors for now, 24's are a waste of money with lower power levels.

In the future when you get your heads/cam, you will have to send the meter away to have it recalibrated for the new injectors, or if it is a C&L meter, all you have to do is change the sample tube inside it.

let me know if you have any questions about the swap

good luck

fiveohpatrol - where did you get the harness from that plugs into the meter?

We're looking to convert our 88GT this winter to MAF and we've goten a couple rough estimate prices on the complete kits something like $500.

I got it off ebay brand new for like $30. Cant remember the company name though

Then I found a pro-m mass air meter for $75, and the computer was $60

$165 for the whole swap

88workcar - we can't even get the our 88GT SD to idle with a K&N conical filter installed. I hate to think of the problems we'd have if the intake, heads, and cam were changed.

Can you share your secrets with the 12-second SD stang?

Im not sure but then again what to i know...

you need to address the problem that you currently have before swapping to mass air. My car ran fine with everything that I have done except for the cam (came after the conversion), but I knew that I had big plans for the car, and came across cheap parts to do the swap so I did it

SD will take you a long way, don't be afraid of it

Chuck, Mustang 289, and any one else... Lee Rutter of New York, back in 1990 with a set of TFS high port heads, a wolverine 1087 cam, and a GT-40 intake, with 19lbs injectors, ran 11.00s WITH SPEED DENSITY. He is MY hero. I had problems at one time. I got a mass air set up. It did not cure the problem. I found what ever it was, then converted back to speed density. Yes it hunts occasionally, but it is not a Lincoln. If it acts up too bad I threaten to get the mass air out the shed, and it straitens up real quick.

The only thing I can not do so far is put 24lbs injectors, I run 38-39psi of fuel no matter what cam- heads combo the SD does the rest. I have had three differant heads, and three differant cams. They all worked.

I have NO secrets. I do have a helping attitude. And I also have this. Ram air, 65mmTB, ported cobra, ported E7s, E-303 cam, race pully on crank, short belt (water, alt), fuel press reg, msd 6al and blaster 2 coil, talor wires, motor craft plugs, 1 5/8 long tubes, off road pipe, Quick flows, dumped, 4.30s, axles, studs, alum drive shaft & loop, weld drag lights, skinnys, 90/10s, poly bushings in stock rear control arms, welded torque boxes, hoosiers, and a light car, 2920lbs with me and a full tank of gas. I may have missed something but I don't think so.

Mine runs 12.5s @ 108+ I drive it daily, I bring my daughter to school every morning, I drove it to Covingon, La. to escape the recent hurricane. I used less than 7 gals of gas to get there, with 4.30s.

If adding a K&N causes problems, you have other problems. I use only MOTORCRAFT 02 sensors, set tps at .99 volts, idle at 1000rpm, keep it in good tune. I have it in my head that I will run low 11s with SPEED DENSITY. Later I will put a turbo, but I think that one will get me. But I will go DFI then.

Don't give up on SD, it is more user friendly that most poeple think. What did you used to do when someone said, " You can't do that"

I have a buddy with a IROC XXXXXX, anyway when he bought the car it had heads, cam, big runner tune port injection, tb, headers, bla, bla, bla..... It never acted right on the road. We always thought well thats the cost of running 12.70s with a car that no one else can make run. One day he tells me that the car is suppose to have a mass air meter. Then he ask What is a mass air meter? We went to auto zone, bought one, put it on in the parking lott. The car never ran so smooth, drove great used less gas, perfect.

We went to the track. The car slowed down 3 tenths and 4 mph. three passes later he unplugged the meter. The car picked up and ran what it used to. He returned the meter to autozone got his money back and drove the beast home.

And people say bad stuff about SD. I guess I am a rebel. Cause I don't want to change.

stay speed density it is not worth the money i feel especially when there is nothing done to the car maybe with a high lift cam it would be an idea but if i were u i would stay sd!

ill tell u what i run when i go to the track
i have sd with gt-40 motor with b303 cams bbk long tubes, all u need to do is get a fuel pressure regulator and u can work ur problems out

take care
raini

i think so too 88work car

hmm, maybe its about time for me to swap the ole' SD computer back in there and see if it'll run right. Not like I'm losing much by trying.
