If you are talking about the Lakewoods that bolt to the axle, then come forward and have the snubber above the torq boxes don't get them. Every time you hit a bump you will have sweat beads on your forhead. I had them on for 3 months and it was like having no suspension travel at all in the rear. I swiched to SSM lift bars and I love them. The only problem is that you will have to weld the plates on because the bolts will not hold for long.

WADS56: no i was thinking of the lower control arm swap like with the SSM piece, only Lakewood makes a set also. i don't want the old slapper style bar.

thanks for the help, i'll probably go with SSM.

what plate needs welding cause the bolts won't hold?

There is a plate that bolts where the old lower control arm would go on the axle. Then the SSM lift bar bolts to the plate to move the control arms down farther. The directions say that you can drill a hole threw the plate and the oringal mounting location, and put a bolt in there to keep it from moving. But the bolt will snap, or round out the hole in time. It is better to set your pinion angle then weld the plate on to the origanal bracket so nothing well move.

I had both. I swapped from SSM to the Lakewood's when they were still $119 from jegs.(sold old SSM's for $75) I did it mainly for the bushing's, to get the better on daily driven. They hook about the same but the Lakewoods are street friendly compared to the SSM bars. I got tired of all the creaking & popping from the SSM's.

I personally have the ssm lift bars and think they are great,I honestly don't hear the nose from them any more, but I agree the plates should be welded on these, these bars will really help your 60' times, my buddy has the lakewoods and is pretty happy with them aswell, the ride with the lakewoods is abit quiter but they handle about the same.

Thumbs down

I HAVE SSM LOWERS ON MY 87GT. THEY ARE BOLTED IN AND UNLESS YOU GREASE THEM THEY MAKE NOISE, SOMETIMES THEY MAKE NOISE ANYWAY. DON'T LIKE THEM. I KNOW SOME PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS, BUT IF I DID IT AGAIN I WOULDN'T PUT THEM ON.

Cool

The Southside bars are known for tearing out the torque boxes also..

Personally I'm gonna purchase the Lakewood Lift bars.

Cool

I also had the SSM. They worked too good on my car. Mine would bite like crazy, then 20ft out they would unload the back tires and cause me to spin. I do better with the stock suspension. Remember, I have a five speed. I hear that they are for an automatic.
