Question 351w ???

I want to convert my 302 to a 351W. how hard is this to do i heard that it is almost the same engine and little modifications are needed. Can anyone tell me what the mods are and whether it is worth doing. Also since im looking for power i ultimately want to stroke the 351 to 427. Is this a good idea. And where can you find a 351w block for cheap on the internet thats in good condition? Thanks for you help and feedback

Not sure how hard it is but I've looked at doing this to my 95 GT. You'd need an oil pan, new engine mounts, the Ford conversion headers, a new intake, and a new hood. The shirt blocks I've seen advertised are like $3000 for a 393. More displacement costs more money.

You can use the same motor mounts, you dont need a new hood of you go with a low profile intake and use drop mtor mounts. Headers, intake, injectors, mass air, a better fuel system while your at it. And 427 I would not build with a stock block, 1) i dont think it is possible and 2) a 408 is more than enoguh in a light weight mustang.

I would definatly go with a 351W based motor, I put one in my 89 LX this summer and couldn't be happier. First with a 351W you can get more cubes than you could safely or financialy extract from a 302. Second only minor modifications are needed at most, headers, oil pan (which can be sourced from older Crown Vics) intake (Trick Flows 351W R) is one of the nicest i've seen, I've got one) Flywheel (FMS makes one) to make it work with your factory T-5.

----------------------
89' LX- 351W .030" AFR 185cc, Crane roller cam, TFS 351W intake, roller rockers, 30# injectors, 75mm TB & MA, BBK longtubes, 190lph pump, 3.55s and everything else in a parts catolog!

Default 351????

You know, I finished my engine this year and I have several friends planning the same thing. When it comes to price, its almost not an issue due to the fact that its almost the same price when your starting from scratch. Why not get an extra 50-100 plus cubes then???? As goes for the motor mounts who cares, your going to want new motor mounts any way, and a 3-5 inch cowl hood, right?? You might need to change your your brackets, depending on your hood and year, but thats all a different story. I have the same alt. bracket on my car with no problems! (92 mustang). If you want, take a look at my picture of my engine bay
Good luck

All I can say is I built a 420 cubic inch windsor, with scat 4340 forged steel crank, 4340 h-beam rods with probe pistons and file fit rings.
Mild work done to the heads (TFS'R), Super victor intake, 750 Demon carb, (BIG) Custom Comp. roller cam, and Kook headers. 3200 stall converter, backed buy TSI transmission with brake, and 3.73 gears. Plus alot of little things, but you get the idea...I have been told by the builder (Panhandle Performance) that my car should go at least mid-tens on pump gas all day long!!!! Then I can spray up to 250 on top of that if I would like. Obviously with race gas. (114+) Now I have yet to go to the track because I just finished the car and I am working out all the bugs, but let me tell you it pulls harder then my last motor did on spray!!!!!! (By the way that combo went 10.80's.)
Good luck and take your time be sure this is what you want.

351W heads will fit a 302. The only 351W heads I would even use would be the 69 and 70 heads because of valve size and smaller combustion chamber. Then comes the price tags for the heads which are getting harder to find and then having them rebuilt. Now you are in the ballpark of the price for a set of cheap aluminum heads...Just my 2 cents..
