More Horse??
Hey guys, I want to get more power out of my 331. I'm thinking cam change. I have a b303 now, check my combo http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?378
I have 69/70 351 heads with 1.94intake 1.60exhaust valves ported/polished to fel-pro gaskets I dont really want to change heads as I have some money into these ones. I'm running an Exployer intake combo that is port matched. Maybe a new intake? I run NOS 150 shot which I'd like to get rid of and upgrade to a supercharger 8psi. But for now I want to stick to a cam or intake change for a naturally asperated engine. The big question is .....What cam can I get to work with my heads? This car is a week-end driver. |
Re: More Horse??
IMO an intake change would do you alot more good than a cam change.
Of course a custom cam is usually best but if it were me I would throw a trick flow stage 2 cam in there. |
Re: More Horse??
Whats a trick flow stage 2 cam? I cant find any specs on it?
Thanks |
Re: More Horse??
check out trickflow.com under cams. The specs are .542/.563 lift with 224/232 duration at .050 and 112 LS.

Re: More Horse??
Thats the biggest problem I have, I don't know how much clearance I have. My friend that helped me put my engine together is no longer around. He knew more than me. And I have no clue how to figure it out. If I where told how to measure it I'm sure I could figure it out. Do I have to remove the heads to get clearance?

Re: More Horse??
It sounds like I may need a machine shop.

Re: More Horse??
Take off one head and put play-dough or putty of some kind on top of one of the pistons. Then put the head back on (with the gasket) and the rocker arms for each valve of the cylinder you put the putty on. Rotate the engine with a socket until both valves have opened and closed. Then take it all back down and measure the thickness of the play-dough where the valves left an imprint. Of course you will need to know the lift of the cam you checked it with so you know how much farther you can go. An eighth inch clearance is a good rule of thumb.
With 1.6 rockers the b303 cam has .480" lift. With 1.7 rockers, it has .510" lift. |
