Default Moroso trick Drag prings

have anyone used these springs with lakewood 90/10s. How many coils did you have to cut off before the ride height looked good??? front and rear? Cuz i can stick my head in the fender gap

What did you use to compress the spring, i've having a heck of a time finding a spring compressor that doesn't look like the spring will kill me while i'm putting it together.
But since you having this problem, i guess i'll see what mine looks like.

You have to use an inside coil spring compressor. goto anyone that deals tools. snap-on , mac or if you have a Lordco in your area I got mine from them for 160 but you do have to modify it by taking 2-3" off the threads for the spring to fully compress. then you have to remove the lower controll arm and install the spring on it. then slide the compressor through the controll arm and in throuhg the spring and grab the coils with about 3 coils left above the compressor. Compress the spring and jack up the controll arm into position, then re install the 2 bolts holding it in place and bolt up the strut. then when everything is in place and bolted up just release the spring. Now I was told by Mopac auto performance to take off about 4 coils in the front and a few in the rear too just to compensate. Its all about personal preferance with the ride height but just remember that with the 2 coils that I took off my struts were at max extent. if you leave the coils the way they are you will get 0 weight transfer, and thats what you want, lots of squat. im running the lakewood 90/10s up front and the comp engineering 2 way adjustable shocks in the rear. where you can have 70/30 50/50 which is stock or 60/40. im also using hotchkis adjustable uppers and hotchkis lowers with UPR sapherical axle housing bushings. that rear end is not gonna move at all.

Cool thanks, i just got my tax return so i'll probably be investing in a compressor, probably a Rotunda (Official Ford) spring compressor that they list in the Shop Manual. I've tried all sorts of inside compressors, but each time the spring wanted to jump out or was at an odd angle. You said you took off 2 coils from the front spring, how many coils would you recommend taking off to make it look stock ride height? Thanks for your informative reply.

I run Koni 70/30's and the Moroso drag springs (uncut) on my black '84, but I use spring limiters. My Fender gap is tight. Its the same setup Super Stock uses. Ever notice those cars pull the wheels way off the ground, but the wheels always stay up in the car

I phoned moroso today and they said that 2 coils is te max you can take off. any more than that and a few months down the road youll be bottoming out. BLOODY BULLSHIT. but apparently its supposed to set at stock ride height with the springs in. Hey 84 LX. arent those spring limiters illeagl cuz there unsafe to use. and what happens when your coil compresses? and how does it prevent the spring from falling out of position?

i had those springs in my 89lx a few years back, i had 2 coils cut off and it sat perfect with almost no gap in the wheel well, 4 coils and your gonna be entering "RICE COUNTRY"lol
i also used 4cyl rears, the car looked really mean.

i just use a macpherson strut tool when compressing the springs, it doesnt seem all that safe but i found its a lot easier than using the center type compressor

I just got the springs (all 4) in with all coils, 70/30 struts, as well as my Granatelli weight jacker lowers and Steeda double adj. upper c/a's. Thank god for the adjustable lowers, i can set the ride height to a reasonable level, but the front gap is INSANE! I don't mind it too much knowing that it will settle down to stock ride height, and the car rides really nice, soft ride but with control. I can't wait for the springs to settle so i can adjust my final ride height and pinion angle!
Thanks for your help tamer, i ended up using an inside type compressor and using it through the control arm....scary, but it worked.
