Question Strange noise from my 2000 GT engine

I just started to hear a noise from my engine at around 1500 to about 3500 rpm. Sounds almost like a squeak and sounds like it is comimg from my engine compartment. I can only hear it when the engine is under a load (sounds perfect at idle). At times I can hear it if I rev the engine with the car in neutral. Anyone have any idea what this could be? Engine problem?

This is my first mustang and v8 and I'm not a car guru either. I need to get an idea what is wrong if I need to take it to Ford so that I won't get the usual FORD runaround. I appreciate any help you can provide.

I appreciate the reply Hammer. Atleast my post isn't invisible. It almost sounds like something is loose under the hood. I only hear it when I'm accelerating. It goes away when I'm idling or cruzing. I'd like it if some can help diagnose this problem.

Thanks.

My best quess is that if it only occurs under load, it PROBABLY isn't the engine.

Maybe a transmission issue transferring power through the drivetrain... just a shot in the dark...

I also hear it a little if I rev the engine while in neutral.

You have to keep in mind that the engine will shake just about EVERYTHING in that engine compartment. Since most of the noise comes from within a certain rev range, its most likely the frequency of the vibration and may not be the engine at all... but something else in the engine compartment.

I would have someone keep the throttle in a position that the vibration occurs and start snooping in the engine bay for the sound. (Just be EXTREMELY careful under there with the engine going, or you might become one of those 3 fingered high school shop teachers... )

I'll try that. Your high school shop teachers had 3 fingers? Ours only had 2. Thanks for the help.
