MSD 6AL Install Problems
 

I just installed a MSD 6AL box on my '93 GT and I cannot get power to the coil from the box (orange wire). I have power from the car's wiring harness at the coil (small red wire) going to the box, the box has battery power(large red wire) and battery ground(large black wire). I've checked myself several times and everything appears to be wired correctly, what could be causing this? Is there some type of delay or something? Please help, I don't know what else to check.

I believe you also have to put the MSD power (small Red Wire) on the positive on the coil also. I just recently installed mine. I havent tried cranking it yet but I believe by the instructions i got that the orange and red wire must be on the hot side of the coil.
Someone else please verify but I think will solve your problem.

p.s. If not where does the extras red wire go?????

I was under the impression that the small red wire was the hot input from the car (coil) into the msd box, and the orange wire is the hot output (back to the coil). just a big loop?
Someone please verify.

If both of the wires are going to the hot side of the coil will that produce a loop inside the MSD box??? Someone please help before we both screw up real bad...

Wires from the MSD box go to the following:

Heavy Red: To Battery Pos.
Heavy Black: To Battery Ground
Thin Red: To Pos Coil Wire
Thin White: To Neg Coil Wire
Thin Orange: To Pos Coil
Thin Black: To Neg Coil

The thin red wire does not touch the coil directly after the box is installed. It goes through the box to reach the coil.

Double check your grounds. If they're good, and you have voltage at the thin red wire, but no voltage at the thin orange wire, then the box is defective.

so I have mine Chris??? I have the red and the orange wire on the positive side of the coil and the thin black wire to the negitive???

I'm not sure I understand your question, but if you were asking me if it's hooked up wrong, then yes, it sounds like it is. The thin red wire should go from the box to the wire that used to go to the pos coil. If you have both the red and orange wires going to the coil, what do you have going to the pos coil wire in the original harness?

Oh dude sorry I totally forgot to tell ya mine is a carb set up. Sorry man. There is no original harness on my car, its gone. I am using a Duramax type distributor.

It doesn't matter. The red wire goes to whatever wire used to go to the pos coil (from the ignition switch). Check out the image that Charlie left for you above.
