MSD pro's and con's

Hey, i have a 94 mustang GT (5.0)

I was thinking about putting msd ignition on my car, but i would like to hear some pro's and con's to it before i run out and buy it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....Thank you

MSD is the bomb!

I can't think of a con for MSD. Well, if you want to considering connecting 4 wires a con...;)

I have the MSD 6AL and love it. Very good investment. If you have a 5 speed, get the 6AL because it has a rev limiter on it. If you have an auto, you'll be fine with the 6A. They are the same box except for the rev limiter. MSD is great because everything plugs right in with each other. I have a retard as well, and it pluged right up :) Performance advantages: you get better MPG, quicker throttle responce, more HP, and easier starting.

It really depends. What mods do you have? Why are you looking at a new ignition box? If your car is between stock and mildly built, an MSD box is a waste of money. The factory ignition system in your car is among the best there is.

Take care,

Stock ignition rocks!

Agree with PKRWUD on this one.

No real advantage to the MSD box if you're near stock. Just get good plug wires, keep the plugs, cap & rotor fresh and you'll be fine.

I have a near-stock 5.0 and the only ignition 'mods' I've done are the above (Taylor Spiral-Pro wires). I did replace the stock coil with a Crane PS-91 (at about 90,000 miles) just as a maintenance issue. Runs great.

So it might be a good investment for me? What do you mean it has a rev limiter? What will that do? I need to bump my rev limiter up about 300-500rpm for my new cam. Will this work?

You just use the "pills" that come with the ignition box, they plug in, i have pills but no 6al box, since my car is basicly stock, but i want one anyway, so i can lower my limiter to 6k, factory is 6250, for next time if i miss 2nd gear it wont rev to far past my shift point, which is 5300. I would get one if you race alot like me, plus we put one in my buddies mild 347, with stock intake and exhaust, it felt more responsive, but not much.

And running n20, i would have one for sure.
