Default The muffler debate

Ok guys, I haven’t seen anything posted on this in quite some time, so I thought I would go ahead and ask now. I am going to get under the car this spring and put an X pipe in the car to replace my homemade 2.25 h pipe. While I was under there, I thought I would open the sound up on the car and get rid of my summit mufflers.

Feel free to post what you have, and if you like them and so forth. I am looking for all your opinions and details. I love the sound of the super 40 flowaster, but have read they are somewhat outdated now. My other choice would be the dynomax super flows. I will be bolting this up to 2.5 tubes all the way out the back. I am open to any other manufactures as well.
Thanks,
Ryan

I have the flow-tech x-pipe with flow master american thunder, getting tired of the flow masters and thinking of the flow-tech Warlock or Afterbuners.

i had flowmasters on my 02 gt... i loved the deep sound but they were kind of loud - i switched to a magnaflow cat-back and actually saw a small increase in gas mileage and a little better performance. i would not buy flowmasters again if i had the choice between a chambered and a straight-through muffler

I use 2 1/2" 3 chamber FlowMasters with a Dr. Gas x-pipe and Tri-Y headers. I measured the back pressure @ 1.5 psi. They sound good to me and most others. I don"t think I could stand them any louder though. ( people in the shop held their ears when I had it dyno'ed)

I have my 3 chambers dumped, they can set off alarms for sure,

but in my opinion, they're kinda quiet under wot, maybe more high pitched than the 2 chbrs.

I had Flowtech warlocks on my '89 GT and i didn't appreciate how deep and growly they were until i sold it and heard the guy drive away.....then i wanted the car back. The warlocks are fairly quiet inside the car and make the engine sound twice the size it is when you hear it driving from behind. with 2.5" pipes and full exhaust it was actually quite drivable and the exhaust never drowned out the radio.
I've never heard an exhaust that sounded like them because most performance mufflers i've heard make a raspy/hollow tone

Don't forget about Borla's. Those sound bad-azz with an X pipe. My Scarelane came with Flowmasters on it, so I'm gonna leave them there for now, but when it's time, I'm definitely going with Borla's.

I appreciate all of your opinions guys, although it took Jester a little long to respond.

I am not sure what I am going to go with, I still have a good 2-3 weeks before i bring the car out this year.

88workcar - That would be awesome, I will let you know when I get a little closer.

Jester-
I am back and fourth on it, I really like the sound on that one particular series of Flowmaster. But it seems they are a little out dated technology now. Then again, my combo really doesnt need the best flowing muffler.....decisions decisions.

Go with what YOU like the sound of, you're the one that has to listen to it everyday. No slamming your ride AT ALL (Cuz I LOVE that car!) but obviously you're not trying to tweak each and every extra horsepower you can out of it, so I wouldn't worry about the outdated tech.

Just my $.02 bro!
