Post My Engine Combo- REDONE.

Well, I just got $1800 dropped into my lap. Its burning a hole big time.

I want to redo my motor to run around 114mph N/A.

Either a 351 or 302.

I was thinkin new pistons, high compression port my heads a little higher revving cam and a new intake.
On fordmuscle.com they have a junkyard block 5.0 with iron heads running 11.96@116mph in a 69 mustang with a stock T-5. Spinning upto 6800rpm on the shifts!!

How long could a motor like that last... what should I do? I can't find any cheap used blowers, and I know that would end up running me move $1800 with all the accessories to get it running right, and I'd rather stay N/A Ive decieded.

What - $1800 and you can't find a used blower? I got my H.O A-trim used for $1200 (the guy was asking for $1500). Go look on the Corral Auction Block, and if you see one for anywhere in the $2000 range, make an offer for $1800.

FWIW, the 69 Stang was using a solid roller cam to enable him to shift at 6800rpm. Our hydraulic cams are limited to 6000 before valves start to float.

However, if you're definitely sure you want to stay N/A, then get the heads ported / milled (54cc). This will up compression to around 9.85:1 (stock pistons). Sell the intake and get a Holley intake (these things flow like gang-busters). Ditch the E303 cam and get a custom cam from Ed@FTI. And go with some BBK long tubes over the shorty headers. This (with a good tune) will get you in the 112-114mph range, depending on the weight of your vehicle.

Rebuild with a 331 or 347 kit, and get an appropriate cam!

Thankx for the input guys. I dont have the money for a stroker rebuild. Id rather not have to spend the money on long tubes, as they will only yeild 10hp or so more than my shortys. Im gonna port the cam heads.

I searched all over corral for a blower, couldn't find one at all!

Anyways, I'd rather stay N/A.

BTW the solid roller cam, whats the pros and cons of that? Why couldnt I switch to that a spin the car higher?

You could run a solid cam in your car. But you would have to ditch that Cobra intake, and make sure you had the compression to make big n/a power.

The downsides of a solid roller cam are periodic valve adjustments, and noise. They are seldom used on drivers.

Also I bet that Mustang you were talking about probably weighs 2900 lbs with the driver in it.

Also remember that to spin higher than 6250 you'll have to somehow disable the factory rev limiter (aftermarket chip or computer...). A rebuild with 11:1 compression and switching to a bigger cam and an RPM upper intake would be what I'd do. You might also consider more gear (like 4.30's) if you plan on racing it more than street driving.

I think that is what I am gonna do.

I dont need an RPM lower? The Lowers are the same or just very similar or what?

Thanks,

The RPM and Performer 5.0 both use the same (identical) lower intake. The uppers differ in that the RPM has 1" less runner length and bigger runners (promotes more power 5000+ revs). You might consider some porting on the lower intake, but I wouldn't worry about it if you plan staying on the motor. If you do a new cam, make sure you have springs that can handle higher revs and/or higher lift (that is, buy a kit, or have a custom ground cam done and get springs to match ). Good luck!
