![]() I have a problem... The tranny does not want to go into 3 or 4 after driving for about 10 minutes, but if it goes in it is extremely difficult to get out. Sometimes it will NOT come out and I have to pull over a fiddle with it. I think that the 3-4 synchro was already going because if I put it from 3 to 4 in a hurry it would grind, but if I went slowly no grind. But the problem I am concerned about is the lack of 3 and 4 gears. I was told that it may be the selector fork??? The solution to that I think is to remove the selector and clean, fix, replace, or what ever. I am having difficulty in removing the center console to get at the 2 front screws to get at everything. Any how I need a few ideas to get the center console out.

![]() Sounds like you will have to drop out the tranny to fix this. Going in through the console only gives you access to the shifter. There is only a turret rod under there with a ball socket for the shifter. BTW to get the front bolts for the inner boot, use a dremel tool to cut away part of the console ( of course only the part covered by the leather boot trim piece), then you can get those suckers. I was not able to get bolts back in there after installing my MAC shifter.
It sounds like internal problems in the trans, possibly a bent shifter fork courtesy of those 2-3 shifts, I had mine rebuilt for $575 carry in and out, and it was totally wasted at the time. You may fair better

![]() I have to agree. You will probably need to drop the tranny out, as the console doesn't allow you access to much. Definitely sounds like an internal problem, such as a bent fork.

![]() How many miles do you have on your tranny? Sounds like your synchro's are going out. If it has 100K+ on it, and it's giving you problems, I would suggest a complete rebuild, or a new tranny.

![]() Cast aluminum shift forks like the ones in a T-5 don't bend. They break.
