![]() If I order the 8.8 rear axle assembly from Mustangs Unlimited what are the issues if I want to have 5 Lug axels. It seems that you have to use the 28 spline axels with the the new 8.8 which are four lug? I quess I don't understand the different confiqurations.
Thanks for your help |

![]() If you stay with rear drum brakes, you'll need 5 lug drums along with the 5 lug axles.
You can find the parts you need from a Ford ranger, I'm forgetting, I did the swap myself, I think 1984-1988, two drivers side axles will fit the fox Mustang 8.8" rear. I don't know what the Mustang's Unlimited Rear End is though. |

![]() I wouldn't even buy a new rear, just put different axles in the rear you have and rebuild the factory clutches. If you're not going to go with bigger axles i see no reason to change the whole deal out. Like he said the ranger axles work with the factory differential.

![]() Right now I have a 18 year old 7.5 axel assembly. My goal is to have a new 8.8 rear with disks brakes. Can I get a 8.8 and keep the four lug axels when converting to disk brakes in the rear. Sorry I'm damn confused.

![]() ahh, i thought you already an 8.8 housing. yes, you can get an 8.8 out a turbo coupe with 4 lug discs. some came with 3.73 gears from the factory which would be a nice deal. however the axles are a little longer and can cause larger tires to rub a little but not too bad.
