Need Help, Budget Drag Suspension...
I want a good drag suspension, but i dont have a lot of money to play around with, so here is what i have to ask.
i was told to put 4cyl springs in, but only up front, is this correct? i want 70/30's, and 50/50's, along with some SSM liftbars, and uppers, or some other tye of controll arm. what controll arms would you reccomend? i am going to start off with the 4cyl springs(front and back, or just front?) along with pulling the sway bar, and then try to save for a decent tire(how are the m/t sportsman pros? drag radials are around 340 each, and the et streets are 260 each, the sportsman pros are 190 each) that i can drive to the track on(and around town on some nice days). what else am i mission for suspension? thanks |
Anyone???

IMO... SSM lift bars, welded torqu boxes, boxed stock uppers with poly mounts, 90/10 and 50/50 with 4cyl springs.

this thing drives on the road a lot, so i am going to have to stay away from 90/10's for safety sake.

4cyl springs upfront only, and I'd stick with 70/30's if you drive it much on the street, which you probably do
Oh and by the way, could you either shrink the photo in you signiture WAY down, or take it out completely? It makes it take forever for the page to load for us dialup guys. Thanks |
Most people around here say to use the 4cyl. springs in the back so the weight transfers to the back of the car. You want the front springs to store alot of energy and the 4cyl. ones don't do that well. Gasman from vancouverstangers.com uses them only in the back and his car does pretty well.
The sportsman pros worked well on my car, my 60' times on my first time out were 2.0's with a best of 2.001 (keep in mind my stiff springs and Tokicos) on a day when the other racers were saying that the track wasn't hooking well. I've already gained 2/10ths. and I'm going to try running less air pressure and see what happens, I ran 18psi last time, someone told me to try 10-14psi. Also, once I got it hooked off the line it was glued, no more pedalling the first 100 feet and I could powershift 2nd and not put it up in smoke. I'm addicted to the track and I'm considering building a drag suspension instead of my setup. |
Buddies car picked up a tenth from just boxed stock upper control arms and 4 banger springs in the BACK.. HE has STOCK V8 springs and struts up front and cheap shocks in the back... We boxed the lower arms and are going to try to see what it does this weekend at Corral Day. He also went from a 1.99 60 ft time to a 1.82 60 ft. time just by adding the boxed uppers and 4 banger rear springs..
