Unhappy need help please!

What size allen wrench do I use to hold the alternator pulley still while I take it off. My girlfriends cousin said if you stick an allen wrench through the alternator somwhere the pulley will lock. I am trying to swap pulleys cause my car is hard to start today and I am 130 miles from home.

hmmm..I have never heard that. The only way I know how to get it off with out screwing up the pulley is to use a impact wrench.
