need immediate help about my ragtop

I have an '87 GT ragtop and am in the process of getting it replaced before the racing season comes about. The place wants to charge me $1,100-1,200 for the complete job which is a new top, removal & replacing. Let me know what you guys think and let me in on any other info that would help me out in this situation. I am also from the metro detroit area and if you know of a place let me know. Thanks a lot

You are getting robbed! Find a better shop I would say, I had mine done for about 2/3rds that and I had the rear window cutain replaced too. I also don't live near you, so that might ber a factor but I don't know.

yeah, it should be cheaper... unless they are replacing the weather stripping too..
make sure you get the heaviest weight canvas that you can.. or it will wear it fast..

I had mine replaced in 95, I think. Parts and labor cost me $800, although the guy was a customer of mine and he was doing me "a solid".(hahah) Everyone else wanted around what you were quoted. Make sure they are replacing the glass curtain too(at that price), with glass! Also make sure you get the 10yr top for that price, there isn't that big a difference in price from the different warranty tops. Most of that $1200 is labor.

That estimate is very realistic, at least in the minneapolis area. Anywhere from $900-1200 w/ the rear defrost glass curtain. I have no clue how some of you get such good deals, but I have to think area and how busy the shop is are keys as well as workmanship. So regarding your question, yes that is about right, maybe even more in the spring.
