Post got oem dipstick -still not right

Today i got an oem oil dipstick and put the car('92 GT 5.0)up on ramps, removed the rear drain plug and drained the oil.i did not replace the filter and added 4 qts.i then ran the engine for a few minutes then shut it off.i checked the oil about a half hour later and it was 2 inches above the full line.Is this car possessed and do i need an exorcist?

did you remove the front drain plug as well. The front sump in the pan can hold quite a bit (probably about a quart) and the oil filter with the passage above it can hold over 1 quart by itself, with both of those i'd say that could account for 2 extra quarts of oil. Another thing you can check is if the dipstick tube has fallen into the oil pan or is lower than it should be. good luck,

well atleast you dont have 7 quarts in there and its still low

i bet you didnt pull the front drain plug right? also since you are having problems getting the whole oil change thing down, i'd suggest doing the whole oil change. ie oil AND filter, i know your filter is probably new anyway but without changing it as well you dont know "exactly" how much oil to add

pull BOTH drain plugs and the filter, replace both drain plugs and a new filter, then add 5 quarts, this'll do it

Cool

This reminds me of the first time my Brother changed the oil in his VW, he put in about 6 quarts and mentioned it was not full yet (looking down the oil fill hole)my dad started calling him Fidel Castrol after that
