Need opinions..NOVI 1000 with E303 and Longtubes??
Hello All,
I have a 88GT AOD. I have a NOVI 1000 on the way (killer deal ) And I have some questions. I will be installing all my mods for the year at once: Novi 1000 6-8 MAC Long Tubes / MAC H-Pipe (I have the cat-back) MSD 6AL BTM 4:10 Gears FMS Driveshaft Lentech Valve body 1-2 3/4 electric O/D delete GER 2400 stall PRO M 70MM Air Meter 190 Fuel Pump Question 1: Now, I AM NOT changing heads and I do not want to change to 1.6 rollers yet. Will the E303 help me with the stock heads and rollers? The blower and long tubes would love it I think, should I add it to my mod list? Question 2: Are long tubes the way to go? I am not worried about the install, but what would my mods like better? Shorties or the long tubes? That's all for now Ian

I dont like the e-cam for blower cars, (or at all for that matter) and I think the longtubes are a great idea. They are the way to go if you dont mind the install hassles.
Does MAC make longtubes for an AOD car? I believe they dont fit so good with an AOD car, so be careful which header you buy. |

Hey Mach,
Yeah MAC makes specific long tubes for AOD cars. I want to go MAC because they have a good price, and I would like to keep my complete system MAC. So would you just forget the cam for now? I only ask because my buddy may be selling his cheap. Ian

its up to you, if the price is right, go ahead and throw it in there, you might like it. Are you doing the work yourself?

Hey Mach,
The price will be cheap, about half the retail or less. All the work on my car is done by myself and my Dad. I also belong to a great Mustang club which offers 100% free help. Ian

From what i've seen, the E cam makes good power with a blower. You really would need a good set of heads though. You would probably gain 80 hp or so with the head swap on that combo.

the e-cam has a 110 lsa, which is not recommended for blower cars. they usually use a 114 lsa.

According to Ford, they are great for blower cars. I like the sound of it. If I can get it for a good price I may go for it.

An SN-95 at the local shop made 420 rwhp on a Mustang Dyno with stock TFS heads, E-303, shorty headers, Cobra intake, and an 8-10 lb S-trim. That is around 500 crank horsepower. Pretty impressive to me anyway.
I know there are a million blower/custom cams that will make more power, but the E-cam definitely does the job. And the idle problem stories are true. I have that damn cam!!!

according to ford, they are good for automatic cars also. I had one in my AOD, and I wouldnt recommend it. I wouldnt put much weight on the recommendations ford puts in thier catalog, if thats what your referring to.
The e-cam comes on strong at 3000 rpm. AOD cars need something that comes on strong down lower in the rpm range to get out of the hole, stall speed converter or not. But hey, its better than your stock cam, and the price is right, so I dont want to say you shouldnt do it, Im just saying there are better cams out there for your application. Also, there is the surging idle concerns with this cam, although you might not have any problems with that. some cars do, some cars dont. One of the great mysterys of the e-cam. there are many theorys to why this happens, and many fixes, but nothing worked for me, until I swapped the cam to a wider lsa version. |

I guess if the price is too good to pass up, it might be worth it.
Are you going to change the timing chain also? If so, go with the Motorsport double roller chain with the 9 different keyways, so that you can advance the cam timing a little to give you some more bottom end. (maybe 2 or 4 degrees). I'd definitely go with the long tubes. They work better with a blower.

I run the E-303 cam with Trick flow heads, GT-40 intake and I love it. I did have the idle problem after the install, bought the idle control plate and it solve my idle problem. My buddy just installed an E-303 cam and he gained 15RWHP on bone stock motor... BTW he didn't have any idle problems after the install...

Sooooo many opinions, enough to drive a person crazy!
My buddy (mufflerboy) is still not sure if he is going to take his cam out. He is going with a Kenne Bell. They recommend that you put the stock cam back in with the Bell. Anyhow, if he let's it go for cheap, I may grab it. Ian
