new best et/mph!! should I go 4.10s though?

i finally got to test out my new "combo" today, actually hooked pretty good, i ran 2.0 60ft times all day, my best was a 13.77@101.35, my question is for AOD guys that have tried 3.73s then moved to 4.10's or vice versa, is it worth it? i think it would be the best for my setup as is, but i am thinking of doing the T-5 swap within a couple years so i'd just keep the 3.73s for when/if i do that, or should i just leave the gears and save for a high dollar converter or for the T-5 parts, thanks guys

Nice numbers, I dont think the swap would be worth the $400. Its not that large of a difference. Getting some sticky tires, and tune the car a bit more. Im sure SLOAOD is gonna come on here and talk **** to you how slow or car is, but don't listen to him. Good luck, and save for the T-5.

This is a tough question Drew. How fast do you plan on making your car? Do you plan on keeping it streetable? If so you may want to convert to a T5 for the joy of shifting. I personally LOVE being at a light and getting the old "LIGHT EM UP" comments and being able to take off in 2nd to get the tires smoking for them http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

But if you plan on racing a lot the AOD will be more consistant. Proven yesterday as you were the most constant racer out there and you were being very scientific about your times and numbers which I thought was really cool. I personally would keep the AOD and make it fly!

I can't really suggest anything on the gears man since I haven't been there. How many RPM is your engine running at 65mph? Mine is upwards of 2500rpm or so which makes for a not so fun trip from Indy to Terre Haute. It sounds like the engine is racing a bit too high to me.

Too much to list. Best ET on the car so far with stock 2.73 gears - 13.73@102mph

65? never heard of going that speed http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif im normally about 2600RPM to Terre Haute and back cruising at 75, this is on my autometer tach so i know its accurate, i do plan on making it a low 12 maybe 11 second streeter, but i do like how consitent it is on the track, but its just not as fun to drive, i dont know, maybe i'll just get the 4.10's this summer, save for a PI stallion and a lentech valvebody, someone please make up my mind for me http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

i have 3.55 gears and im having the switch from the aod to the t-5 done at this very moment it should be done by the 22nd.
According to the experts at stictly performace in houston where im getting the swap done the t-5 is good for 7 tenths over a stock aod. Ill let you know how it feels when i get it back and then give you a track report on the 25th.

The result wouldn't be that much better to warrant the $400-$500 cost......especially if you ever want to add a turbo or s/c.

it wont be $400, theres a guy at a local ford dealer that does it on the side for $75, i've talked to many people who have had him do it and he does a good job, also a friend is going to buy gears soon but he wants 3.73's so i may have him get some 4.10s and i'll give him my gears and a little extra cash

I've done the 3.73 to 4.10 swap. It was one of my best mods to date. Just for a quick comparo, I raced a buddy before and after the swap. At the time I had stock heads/cam, but did have intake, rr, pulleys, converter, etc. With 3.73 I would pull him out of the hole, but he would catch and pass me before the 1/8 mile mark easily. After the 4.10, I would pull him hard out of the hole and he would never catch me. That is quite the improvement IMO. Well worth the $$.

I really like my converter, it was well worth the money (around $400 I think for converter and 1-piece solid input shaft). I do wish I would have stalled it higher though, but when I got it I was mostly stock. I would stall it at closer to 3000 now. I got a pretty good deal on the converter from Scott @ Art Carr. I told him I wanted a PI converter and asked what they could do for me. He beat their price and their turnaround time to get it to me.
