New Engine (5.0) Oiling Problems

I bought a 93 short block that is ready to be fired up. I used a primer and turned it ccw for about 3 min. at high speed. No oil came up to the top of the heads/valve area. Oil should come up here under pressure right? It doesn't just come from the lifters does it? When I bought this shortblock, I had to put 4 plugs in the block to keep water from coming out, are there some oil restrictor plugs that I missed while building it? Where are they and what size are they? Or am I just freaking out over nothing? Thanks.

Oil reaches the heads via the lifters/pushrods/rockers. Was everything installed?

Take care,
-Chris

Yes, everything is installed. An friend of mine (a mechanic) said that there should be a plug that would cause oil to flow out a hole in the head to the top also. Thanks.

There are a couple of plugs that need to be installed to plug the oil passages in the block. Let's see if I can remember where they are....one is located towards the rear of the block beneath the lower intake and another is located in the front under the timing chain cover, or somewhere up front.

I would have to get a manual out to be sure but just curious if you had the plugs installed. That certainly would cause a problem building any pressure. Just a thought.
