New Exhaust for 82GT

Hello all, I need to order some headers for my 82GT. I have the stock motor except for the new intake and carb. I am looking at the bbk 1 5/8 shorty headers on summitt they have them as part bbk-1515 it says they fit 86-93. Does anyone know if these will fit my 82GT? All the old exhaust will be removed, and all new pipes...mufflers..etc will be installed so I am not worried about matching these with any of the stock components. Any other suggestions for headers for an 82GT? I would imagine I can use any headers designed for 79-93, barring any special issue cars. Is this safe to assume?

thanks again!

Yes, they will fit. When I ordered my Flowmaster exhaust for my '82GT, I ordered the 2.5 inch pipes, mufflers and H-pipe for the '86-93 LX's. The GT pipes will work too but I wanted the tailpipes to come straight out and not turned down like the GT's.

The only thing you WILL need is a double hump crossmember for the tranny. You can either buy one new or get one from any '86-93 5.0.
Also, the H-pipe will come fittings for O2 sensors, which you do not have. You will need to plug them up or you will have an exhaust leak. I bought a couple of 20mm spark plugs, broke the porcelain(sp) and threaded them in the holes. You could also use old o2 sensors from an '86-93 5.0.
After I installed the exhaust, I took it to a muffler shop and had them tack weld all the joins. That's optional though.
If you have any more questions drop me a line.
I hope this helps.
