Default New Gears, Install, and Questions

I am looking to get some new gears for my car in the near future and i am pulled between 3.73's and the infamous 4.10's! I do alot of driving around houston and with my stock 2.73's i average a lil over 20mpg right now if i dont run 90-100 hehe. If i do this driving around houston witch ones would best suit me if i still wanna race, Im leaning torwards the 3.73's but a few questions first.

I want to get some different users specs on their gears(3.73 - 4.10) - what kinda of gas mileage do you average on the highway and what rpm's are you running in a T5 at around 75-80mph in 5th? What are the 2 like for street racing? How much top end do you have with the gear change bcuz with my stock 2.73 i can top out around 140 i think (speedo only goes to 85 lol) but it takes forever. Also this car wont be busting into the 12's anytime soon if that helps you on what direction this is taking with the N/A motor.

And about the install, i have never done any rear end work( and yea i can do mechanic work) but very fast learner and was wondering if anyone in the houston area would be intrested in assisting me on this install one day and the beer and pizza is on me. I know there are quite a few peeps around the houston area so let me know if someone can help. I just dont have the money to pay for install ( my mechanic quoted me $250 for install) so i need to find someone to do it with preferably if you have done an install on your car or someone elses.

So many questions but i gotta learn somewhere!

If your going to drive it on the street a lot, then I would go with the 3.73's. That is what I have in my stang. I installed them myself as well. It wasn't that hard. I took my time to make sure I got the tooth pattern the way I wanted it. I think at 75-80mph, you'll run about 2.3-2.5K RPM. Expect about a 2 mpg gas drop. That's not a lot compared to the amount of pull you get. I have no clue what my top end is, but I got mine up to 130mph and I was only sitting at 4K rpm.

I just got 3.55's in last week and I almost have no 1st gear. On the highway I cruz at 70 @ 2100rpms. The only thing I don't like is the drone from my exhaust between 1900 and 2100 rpms and I have to shift alot more. You should see if you can drive a car with each type of gear and see what you think.

Don't get me wrong I love my gears. I will just have to get used to them.

Yeah, it took me about a month to get use to the new gears. The shift points are much different. Now I wouldn't trade them for anything!

hey thanks for the advice.. hey cyberstang would u be intrested in helping me install my gears? like i said pizza and beer is on me and ill drive there if u want. i would do it myself but i figuered it would be easier doing it with someone who has done it b4. it will prolly be about another month or so b4 i get them but let me know.

Yeah, I'll help ya out. When you get them, it is a good idea to get new inner axle berrings, and a shim kit. If you have all the tools, then we can do it at your place, if not, my place is fine. Don't forget to get new rearend oil and chatter grease stuff. I ain't a beer drinker (I like whisky and coke ) but I'll be looking forward to the pizza
