new headers new problems
I just had new MAC shorty headers installed to finsh my exhaust. after driving for a while i noticed a rattle towards the back of the car, almost like from the trunk or slightly below.
Any ideas what it is or what to do about it? Also there is a smell...i was told it was just the coating burning off and it would go away...is that true? |
maybe when you disconnected the h-pipe from the original headers and installed them on the new headers it might have changed the position of the h-pipe which in turn changed the position of the catback. Exhaust is a funny thing, things cannot bend when you install them, so things must move. Around the catback there is very little clearance as it is around the tailpipes that any slight movement will cause it to rub on something and rattle. And the smell that you are smelling is probably the coating on the headers and it will go away soon.

I had MAC Headers on my other mustang. I don't know about the rattling noise, but I do know it will have a smell for a little while. It does burn off eventually.

i didnt install them.
it seems at thought it doesnt make the noise until i have been driving for a while (10-15 min). When the car is cold i dont notivce any noise. It may just be me. |
Stop by your local Meineke and have them give you a free inspection / check for rattles... You can also go to any other exhaust shop that does free estimates, they should be able to find your rattle for you. When the headers were installed it could have shifted the tailpipe or muffler into a bad spot...
They should be able to take care of it if you can't seem to find it, it could also be the emission tube that runs from the hoses up by the headers down to the h-pipe (if you still run that stuff) Later |
