WTF

my freind that helps me said he thinks we forgot a vaccum line and that, that vaccum line sucks oil to the top of the motor..and that when it stalled it ran out of oil on the top end and bent my push rods??? need some help bad!!!

Sounds like a vaccume like to me too. Check the big vac. line that comes off the firewall onthe drivers side. It's a a tree with a few others. As for bending the pushrods and running out of oil?? I don't think so. Oil doesn't flow threw the intake.

also..when it started bucking and jerking it was like it was being starved for either gas or air..and once it stalled some smoked was coming out from the hook..dont know if it was smoke or steam or what...

What color was the smoke? Could it be an intake leak? Spray some WD-40 around your intake and see if the idle changes. If so you are leaking. Go to Auto Zone and get a vacuum tester - $20. Test the vacuum to see if you have at least 15 inches.

Definitely sounds like vacuum leak, bent pushrods wouldn't happen from that..oils completely different system. Like the other post said, check the big line, also check so see if you put lines in the wrong places...get a manual if you don't have one. Brakes are vacuum assisted-so thats tied into the same situation. Also, smoke under hood, you might have just spilled something, does it smell like antifreeze or oil? Never had the problem on a car, but on a motorcycle once I didn't hook up a vacuum line and it seemed to burn oil, might have been pulled through the valve stem seal somehow? anyway...check lines! Someone above had stated spray WD40, this works forsure, but leaves a messy film all over! If you spray starting fluid around(not tons, this stuff can be dangerous) and the car revs, then you have a leak in the area you just sprayed.

Also, are you sure you used the correct lower intake gaskets? and did the lower intake line up fine?

DemonGT 06-14-2001 12:00 PM

well worked on it yesturday and it started..but i had coolant not driping but pouring out the exhaust..tore it down and found the passanger side lower gasket had slide forward and was leting coolant throw..ordered new gaskets...

also..are you suppose to use that black liquid gasket stuff on the upper and lower intake gaskets to or just the cork gaskets?

You don't need gasket sealer on the upper intake, the lower you should use the RTV on the front and rear of the intake. Where the cork gaskets are located. I prefer to use just RTV and no gasket in this location, the cork ones tend to slip out occasionally. Use a large 1/4" bead if you don't use gaskets here. I like to use alignment pins so that when you lower the intake into place it drops straight down creating a good seal. I took 4 5/16 x 3" or 4" long bolts, cut the heads off and grind a radius on the ends to make alignment pins.
