new mass air sensor problems

Last thursday I got a Pro-M 75mm mass air since my stock one was bad.My car finally has power again, but now my exhaust pops when Idling and letting off the gas. Also the car nows surges.I tried setting the timing higher and the car surged badly with the spout disconnected. While the car runs stronger now it still won't pull hard past 4000rpm.My exhaust started popping slightly about a couple months ago when the car had no power past 3000rpm,but now it's much worse with the mass air sensor. The sensor is calibrated for my injectors. My gas mileage still sucks at 11-12mpg.Does this sound like my stang is running rich?My plugs always look fine.Could I have a exhaust leak even though my vaccum gauge stays at a steady psi at 2000rpm?My o2 sensors are only a couple months old.

Possibly try rotating the MAF inside the tube from 12:00 to 2:00, or 9:00...
Sometimes they will read better as the air hits them a wee bit differently.

A buddy of mine had that same problem and he replaced the computer and cured the problem. Just a thought.

I just noticed today that my thermostat is bad.Causing the car to run rich.My temp gauge was only one mark up when idling and was flunctioning up and down constantly.

Crazy, we seem to be experiancing the same prob. My car surges, shitty MPG,no power above 2000 rpm, and the popping.

Have u run any codes? the only code i get back is 96 from the EEC-IV. If you find a solution let me know.

no power over 2000rpm? i didnt know mustangs made much around that rpm anyways? but i think my mas is going bad too, my temp (with 160 stat) runs cold, but fluctuates cuz of my electric fan? and i seem to be running rich, but gas mileage seems to be pretty good, and get this, i heard 1 pop noise after putting in some higher octane fuel, then driving about 15 miles?

hope you figure out the problem, btw, how much do the computers cost?

one day my car wouldnt start? i popped the hood, and wiggled the mass air plug, and it started? hope its not going south.

Are you guys getting the "pop" when you press the gas pedal down? Mine does this and it started when I installed my long tube headers. It has something to do with the O2 sensors being too far away from the engine and taking longer to heat up. Once my car is warmed up it doesn't pop at all.

I don't know a bunch about all the esnsors on these cars and how they work, but I've also heard from somebody that a faulty ECT sensor (engine coolant temperature) will cause similar problems with the car running rich.
