Default New track times!!!

Tonight I ran a new E.T of 12.93@102.73
It looks like weather played a large part last time because I changed NOTHING since last time out when it was very hot.
I ran 12.9's most of the night.
Here is my best run:

RT- .238(RED LIGHT)
60' 1.786
330'....5.280
660'....8.226
MPH....83.10
990'....10.795
MPH....102.73
E.T.....12.93

The track surface really went bad after round 1 of time shots because my 60' times were in the 1.8 range most of the night because they didn't prep the track during the night. I usually run in the 1.73 range. If felt like the tires were slipping a little during the first 60'. It felt "squirrely"
Tire pressure was at 13#
I'm pretty happy with these new times though. There might be another tenth or two with some fine tuning.
I'd be interested to see what it runs with the exhaust uncorked.

I don't know....maybe it's good for now until I can afford aftermarket heads. I think once I get those, it would like a bigger cam.

I would also wait on the cam till you get heads.

CONGRATS on the 12's man

Thats actually a very good ET for 102mph. Your car is still dying out after the 1/8th mile. I think you have some 12.50's in it once you get it all figured out.

You think it's still dying out? I was trying to determine if it still was or not but my highest mph ever was 104. I thought maybe the 1-2 mph drop was due to converter slippage.
I want to try a 2inch spacer under the carb. and see if that does anything or not.
I can mess with timing and carb yet and tweak it a little bit.
Uncorked exhaust is usually good for another 2-3 tenths and some mph

Your only picking up 19mph after the 1/8th. I pick up 23mph after the 1/8th. Most mustangs I have seen at least pick up 21 mph.

Uncorcked exhaust only helps if you have a restrictive exhaust system.

Me and my brother actuall ran a little slower.

You might get a fuel pressure guage and see what it's doing on the top end. You run 3mph faster in the 1/8th than me, but slower MPH in the 1/4.

I think what's happening here is he does extremely well in 60'-330' for the power he's making due to his 3700 rpm stall convertor and the 410's. I know I couldn't live with that and a C-4 on the street. Maybe a DynoJet run would solve this mystery. Finding out how much actual horse power to the wheels might show why he does worse after the 660' compared to the great "hole shots". Also, those higher rpm stall convertors do cost some inefficiency after they are "coupled".

Don't get me wrong. I'm happy (and a little jelous) that you got down into the 12's. That's just what I'm trying to do, LOL.

REV, you're right I chalk those 60' and 330' times up to my gears and converter. It's also on the ragged edge on streetability as you already suspected.
I need to find out what I need to make this "loose" converter work with what I have for now. I know the simple answer would be new heads and cam but they're not in the cards right now.
I'm hoping maybe a few jet changes and timing adjustments will get my top end power back.(I've seen it happen before)
I was thinking if I put a 2inch spacer under the carb, it would fool the engine into thinking it had a high intake manifold and help me make more top end power.
My jets now are 72/80. Maybe the primarys can go up one or two...

Congrats man! Carb spacer will help you out, like we already talked about. Just make sure you get the right one for the top end.

Does the car feel like it's nosing over, or running out of steam? Or it's still pulling hard, and the number just isn't there?

It feels like it's running out of steam. We'll have to talk about that cam you have.

Here is my set up and the best the I've gone is 1.65 60ft 7.97@84 1/8 12.61@105 1/4. That was good weather. In the heat 12.76-12.80. The best MPH in the 1/8 and 1/4 has been 85-106. On a 175 shot the best is 1.54 60ft 7.16@96 1/8 11.33@116 1/4. It's a 69 351W bored .030 with 69 351 heads (untouched). It has Speed Pro Flat top piston. It has 9:5:1 compression. It also has a hydraulic flat tapped Crane cams duration @050 216in 228ex. valve lift .484in .512ex, 1.6 Scorpion roller rockers, MSD distributor. Moroso spark plug wires. Edelbrock RPM air gap intake (untouched) with Holley 750 Double Pumper. I'm running a TCI 2800 stall with a C6 trans and 3.73 gears.

After seeing this I pulled last nights timeslip out to check mine, I picked up 22 mph after the 1/8th.
My run:
.6779 - rt
1.731 - 60 FT
5.282 - 330
8.237 - 1/8
10.785 - 1000 et
12.929 - 1/4 et (89 octane)
105.39 - 1/4 mph
It was my first time out with my battery mounted in the trunk, with 8psi in the slicks launched at 4500 and i heard a bang under the car, turned out to be my driveshaft hitting the safety loop, my motor mounts are shot. along with my upper control arms as it turns out. I short shifted 1st hopeing i didnt break something, but stayed in it hard so i could outrun the honda rice next to me, That wasnt too hard only run i did.
All i can say is, humidity was so bad last night here, felt like I was in florida.

Hey 82 gt, If you had a 5spd, i bet your car would trap 107 easy, those auto's can kill mph as we all know.....later

How is it that we run almost identical numbers and you still run a higher mph? Your engine must pull harder than mine after the 1/8..
What rpm are you at through the traps? I'm at 6K, which is about where my cam is finished at. Could that be why I'm running out of "steam"?

Yep! I sent you an email on those cam specs, the one I have is almost identical to the one COMP is telling you to get. In fact, the one I have IS a COMP.

What are you shifting at? Try running it out in first a bit longer (if you can) that'll get ya down the track a bit further, and you have the gears/converter to help you out. That way, you'll be further ahead (literally, in feet) when you shift into 3rd, and it might put you back into your cam's power range at the 1320. Make sense?
