Newbie Mustang Question....if this will upset up do not read

I am new to Mustangs, what is a 8.8 rear end? What are the advantages to a 8.8 rear end?

well an 8.8 is pretty much what comes stock in any 5.0 mustang. this rear is a pretty strong rear end!

The 8.8 rear only arrived in 1986. All mustangs prior and any 4-cylinder mustang has the smaller, weaker 7.5 rear end. "8.8" refers to the gears dimensions. Therefore the 8.8 is much stronger than the smaller rears. You didn't say what year your car was, but if you have a pre'86 car, you have a 7.5 rear, unless someone has already upgraded to the later rear.

8.8 refers the the size of the ring gear in the rear end, pre 86 stang had the 7.5" rear, ford also makes a 9" rear end that can handle alot of power. unless your making a ton of power the 8.8 will be enough for your needs.
