Mustang Club of Central Iowa Autocross - May 6 - Marshalltown Go-Kart Track
The Mustang Club of Central Iowa will be hosting its first autocross event of 2001 this Sunday, May 6, at the Iowa International Raceway Go-Kart Track, Marshalltown Iowa (approx. 1 hour northeast of Des Moines). This will be the first of four autocrosses sponsored by our club this year at the Marshalltown Go-Kart Track. Details can be found at our club's website here: http://www.mustangclubofcentraliowa.org/autoxfl1.htm and photos of previous year's autocross events (for those curious what it's all about) can be found here: http://www.mustangclubofcentraliowa.org/pastev.htm .
If you live anywhere nearby, we encourage you to come on out and check out the festivities. Newbies are welcome - as a matter of fact, if you were ever curious about autocrossing, this is an excellent place to give it a try! This is not your typical autocross - there are no orange cones to get lost in - the autocross is held on a paved, nationally recognized Go-Kart track that is 0.6 miles in length and ranges in width from 26 to 30 feet (more like a mini-road course). Since this is a Solo event, only one car will be allowed on the track at a time. Participants will be running against the clock, so you can go as fast (or as slow) as you want. Helmets will probably be available on-site, but it is recommended that you bring your own helmet if you have cone. If you want to run, you will also need to make sure your car is in good mechanical condition as all cars will be teched (for various safety items) prior to running. Even if you don't want to try your hand at driving, spectating is also fun (the action out on the track can be pretty exciting to watch). Spectator admission is free and there are bleachers available that offer a great view of the whole track. For those that want to experience the action first hand, passengers are also allowed while racing and many drivers are willing to give rides. Pit area / parking is plentiful, modern restrooms are available and there is even a food vendor right on-site. Everyone that comes has a great time - people attend from all over Iowa plus a few bordering states, as well. We typically get around 40 cars which allows everyone to get as many runs in as they want. If you come out, be sure to look us up and say "hi". My husband and I will be there running our Ultra Blue and Silver '91 Mustang GT (that is, if we can get the engine back in by Sunday). See ya Sunday! ------------------ Kathy Bowers 1982-1993 Mustang GT Registry www.mustanggt.org mustanggt@mustanggt.org <A HREF="http://www.mustanggt.org/bowers/index.html" TARGET=_blank>1965 Mustang coupe (stock) 1985 Mustang GT hatchback (daily driver) 1991 Mustang GT hatchback (modified - 13.61 @ 104.38) |
