Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

the .99 cent autolites gapped at .035 should work nicely ...dont get platinum plugs or anything fancy as it will just get burned off

dont know the number i just know they are the cheap ones - just ask the guy at the parts store, he'll know

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

I run 25's for NA, and 24's on the squeeze. Gap is important, got a lot of fuel in there to light. You'll be just fine with the Autolites.

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

I'm guessing you mean smaller gap on the spray?
What if your over 125 shot is autolite 24 cold enough?

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

run autolite 3922 they are the best 4 gas

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

Yes, the Autolite 24s are the ones you want...even with a 125 shot.

What about a big shot say 175-200HP?

For that big of a shot I'd probably go with 23s, I guess. You'll have to retard the timing way down for that big of a shot. Is this a dry shot? Do you have the correct motor internals & fuel system to handle this 175-200 shot?

skiwesser 06-01-2005 04:50 PM

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

No, I was just wondering if you'd go even colder on the plugs or just crank the timing way down.
I do plan to spray my rebuilt 306 with 175-185, with plenty of fuel of course.Forged pistons, stock everything else(crank & rods).
What do you think?
Should I get a main girdle? At least studs I figure.

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

I'd stick with a 150 shot. That'll take well over a second off of your quarter mile time with a big enough fuel pump & a properly set bottle warmer. Anything over that seems like you're pushin it in my opinion.

Fat0eknee 06-01-2005 08:53 PM

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

150 is safe but its pushin it - stock rods are the weakest link

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

i run autolite 3922 plugs with timing on 14 works very well

Timing on 14 with the nitrous?! How big of a shot? Unless you're running some high octane fuel, that sounds pretty scary to me...

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

i am shooting a 150 shot on 93 pump gas .works very well.

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

So you're plugs look ok? No detonation I guess? That's amazing for a 150 shot. All we have here in So.Cal. is 91 octane. I've yet to experiment with race fuel & more timing. My 150 shot on 91 octane with my timing on 9 is plenty for me. I don't want to damage any of my motor internals. That's great that you can pull that off though. What are your 1/4 mile times mr49south?

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

well we only have an 1/8 trackand i went 7.39 ,97.8mphon a 125 shot leaving on idle with bf drag radials.on the 150 shot leaving at 3200 with 150 shot went a 6.92,at 102.5 .getting ready 2 try a 175next time out.

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

That's pretty impressive. What all is done to your motor & fuel system mr49south? Have you checked your plugs after a nitrous run, or at least once you get back from the track? How do they look? No flakes of aluminum melted onto the electrodes, right? LOL. Just kidding...I'm curious to see how the 175 shot will work for you. So do you retard your timing at all from regular on motor runs? I highly suggest you retard it at least a few degrees on the 125-175 shots. But...who knows, maybe that 93 octance is helping out bigtime.

no i never touch my timing. checked my plugs and it was running richmy car runs 7.87 on motor at 87.4mph.my motor is stock bottom end with tw heads ,eldo intake,24lb inj, 75 tb, 73 mass air, 4.10 gear. with a comp cam dont no the specs but it is preety big with 1.72 rollers on it

Sounds like a good motor combination. What size fuel pump are you running? I've been using nitrous for many years now, and consider myself fairly educated with the 'ol laughing gas. Unless running race gas, any motor should have the timing retarded down to 8-10 degrees btdc when running a 125 shot or higher. I'm just curious...how come you don't retard your timing at all? You might not see any signs of detonation just yet...but you could be doing damage to your motor that shows up down the road.

because that is were we dynoed it atthata why i dont touch my timing. i have a255 feul pump. my mechanic has been doing it 4 years 2 he said it would be fine.we also had a car with the same set up escept with no cam or in jectors with 2 stage 90on1 125 on 2 it ran really well.go 2 the web www.carolinaautomasters.com Carolina Auto Masters look 4 johnny medlin 91 mustang 451hp

Re: Nitrous Spark plugs

Right on. So the dyno I would assume could tell that nothing was in danger with the timing at 14? That's awesome. I wanna get my car dynoed sometime soon. Thanks for the link. Being that we have similar setups...what is your fuel pressure set at at idle with the vacuum hose on?

i dont no what my fuel is on but we like 2 run it lean on gas
