no start.. please help!

Hello all. '87 Speed density 5.0L... 1.7 rockers, 65mm TB, Intake Spacer, exhaust, 5 speed. Otherwise totally stock. Engine has never been apart. Took the upper intake, distrib, valve covers etc off for detailing & powder coating. put it all back together... ran like there was a HUGE vacuum leak... When the car was barely running, it was popping, snaping, really nasty. Then dies wouldnt restart. All cylinder's valves are working in order (no broken cam or jumped timing chain)... OK no biggie , distributor off a tooth or so..... rolled the engine to TDC on dampener, felt to be sure on compression stroke, set the disrtib back in.... STILL no start. So, now maybe the hard running hot soaked the TFI or PIP... new distributor, TFi, Cap, rotor, plugs, wires were new anyway. STILL no start. There is spark at the plug at each plug. I have pulled #1 & #5, they are firing in order. & the fire at the plug seems to be at the right point on the dampener.... I am lost!!! anyone have any ideas?

what do you mean by 1 and 5 are firing in order? the correct firing order is 13726548. the old firing order is 15426378. hopefully its just this simple!
